22 Hornet...CZ or Ruger?

Looking to buy my first 22 Hornet and it seems CZ and Ruger are the top choices. I've owned a couple CZ 527s in 223 and they were great guns, but the mag sticking down is ugly. I've read that some of the Rugers are known for accuracy issues. Have these issues been addressed with the new production 22 Hornets? I'm leaning toward the Ruger since it has the faster twist rate and looks a little nicer than the CZ, but I don't want to have to fight it for accuracy problems.

9 times out of 10 I'd say a stock CZ 527 is going to outshoot a Ruger 77. I'd only choose the Ruger if you know going into it a pillar bed and trigger job (possible a re-crown) are most likely required to get it to shoot decent.

The cz is UGLY!!! The cz won't shoot the 50gr bullets! And the cz has that crazy magazine that makes that poor rifle look like a Marlin goose gun! And only on the make believe world of the inter net!

Take my opinion for what the 2 cents its worth. I have been around multiple 22 hornets in the Ruger fare that did not shoot great (1 1/2 at 100 yards best). Also have shot multiple friends CZ 22 hornets and they shoot great out of the box.

FYI that set trigger is as good as it gets for bench shooting. Where as most rugers feel like a heavy trigger packed in sand comparably.

Sorry to take issue with you Marco, but that's a bold statement to make since most everyone knows that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Apparently you perceive it as ugly, and that's fine if you personally think so. I don't think it's necessarily ugly, though admittedly it's not as attractive (to my eyes) as my custom Arnold Arms .257 mag. that is a $3,000 rifle. It's all relevant to what an individual thinks is ugly or not.

As to "it won't shoot the 50 grain bullets," well, I'm sure there are a lot of rifles that won't shoot them well, while others will. Reloaders know that, and also that one specific rifle may not shoot them while another one of the same kind, will.

I own and have owned a lot of rifles over the years of various makes and calibers. Some were not so accurate, others were and some were / are just outstanding. I can say one thing about the CZ's that I and my son own - they are accurate right out of the box. No need to do all sorts of accurizing to get one to shoot well. A little time at the reloading bench shows what they are made of.

Well, I don't know, I kind-of like the looks of my CZ. I like the action too and definitely the accuracy. I know one thing for sure - a rifle that won't shoot well finds no love with me, beautiful or not and it finds a new home.

I've read and read until I can't find anything new to read. Pretty much everything I've found on various forums was mixed reviews at best on the Ruger, but mostly negative in terms of accuracy, factory trigger, and sloppy bolt. The CZ did not have any negatives regarding accuracy, only negatives about the looks, the magazine, and the backwards safety lever. Nothing negative regarding accuracy though.

I would go with the CZ .22 Hornet or find a nice used Browning A-bolt Hunter .22 Hornet.....heck Browning might be making a new .22 Hornet in the X-bolt now?

I can't comment on the CZ, but the newer production walnut Ruger I had shot great especially after the Volquartsen sear & spring were installed. I'm not a big fan of the CZ magazine extending below the stock. Good luck.

For those of you (like me) that think that the magazine sticking out distracts from the looks of the gun you can just do like I did and put one of James Calhoon's single shot followers in it and be done with it. I just shoot colony varmints with mine where I drop the ammo in one shot at a time so no biggie for me. Sure does clean up the lines and it is really nicely made too. All steel. Looks and works great. Highly recommended.

Aint nothing ugly about that rifle 6mm! Don't listen to 'em!

I don't mind exposed magazines on bolt guns unless they are the 10 round monstrosities.

Yeah, I know it. They are just trying to yank my chain. I think quietly they all like it. LOL.

I liked it so much I bought a CZ 527 Varmint in 17 Hornet yesterday!

At least that's what I'm telling the "Warden" aka my wife, when I bring it home. I tell her allllllll the time, it's not my fault, all these guys are just a really bad influence on me. I don't think she's buying it though.
