.22 hornet on a budget

So I'm wanting to try a .22 hornet. Mostly just for fun. Will I hunt with it? Sure. But mostly it'll be just for plinking. I think the wife has given her blessing to the purchase of 2 rifles, but I don't want to abuse the opportunity, if you know what I mean. The other rifle is undetermined, at this point. point being, I'd love to pick up an economical .22 hornet "just for fun". any suggestions on cheaper models?

Thanks,

I have a H&R in the hornet and love it paid $304 out the door new in the box six months ago. Also have one in a Thompson encore good shooter also but more money. Both shot sub MOA and the H&R is my calling and truck gun at the moment but most all of my shots are within a 100 yards. Good luck.

dunno what your budget is, but i have a savage 25 walking varminter in .223 and it shoots great, they also make it in the hornet.

I also have the H&R and while I like it, i feel they have become way over priced for what they are, was a time when they were a good bargain, not so much anymore.

also have a contender pistol, like said more money and at that price Id get a rifle, if you were on a budget, extra barrels cause a whole nuther kind of addiction.

good luck

FWIW, a 223 would be cheaper to shoot as a plinker unless you're reloading - have you seen the price of 22 Hornet ammo lately?? And a 223 can be downloaded to behave just like a 22 Hornet.

On which gun, I'd vote Savage/Stevens if you wanna stay lower priced with very good usable quality.
