22 Hornet shell extractor

I had a case separate in my Hornet today. My smith had a broken shell extractor for the 22 Hornet and it pulled it without issue. He suggested I get one but I can find one anywhere. Anyone know where I can buy one or maybe have one to sell? Thanks!

Use a brass or better yet stainless bore brush. 22 caliber might work, probably a 6mm be better.

ETA: Needs to push into broken case snug (from breech end); bristles will expand when trying to pull back out and bring the case with it.

I tried that first but it wouldn't pull it. The extractor pulled it right out.I'm finding out the extractor is rare as hen's teeth. Seems no one makes them anymore.

find a thread tap that will bite into the i.d. of the brass and weld a piece of rod to the end of the tap.

you can even put some kind of a slide weight on the rod and weld a cap on the end of the rod. use it sort of like a dent puller, but for stuck brass.

i have made several in this fashion for several different cartridges and they work great.

I've had one piece of Hornet brass separate as well, after loading them with 12.2grs of H4227.

The problem was, 10.2grs of H4227 was the max load. I mis-read my balance beam scale.

I used a thread tap as well. The separation happened way back in 1990, or so.

Since Lilgun powder and a Lee Collet Die, I have not had another one.
