Alright guys Ive made up my mind that I simply must have a 22 hornet! Im looking for a bolt action, blued barrel 22 hornet, nothing fancy under 600 dollars would be ideal....

look at the cz 527 american on their website, i am really wanting one to. I have a ruger laminate stock, target gray bull barrel but would like the cz.

Bull barrels are nice when you are sitting at a bench. They really suck if you have to lug that heavy mutha' around in the field all day. Forget shooting offhand with it. They are designed for benchrest shooting. I have a Ruger M77/22H and wouldn't trade it for the world. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have a CZ 527 in .22 Hornet. Nice little gun and very accurate. Shot my first .25" five shot group with that little bugger after I free floated the barrel. Make sure you get yourself some Lil Gun powder, Rem 6 1/2 primers and some 40 grain Vmax. The only problem was that I could only load the 40 Vmax's one at a time because of the long OAL.

The Hornady 45 grain Bee load was also very accurate with the above components.

The most accurate loads were on the "hot" side. Good luck. paint

not to bad mouth the CZ but before you buy, be advised they have a .223 bore diameter...

you're taking a chance that your particular barrel will not shoot well with a .224 diameter bullet... this would leave you with a very limited selection of .223 bullets to work with...

not sure what they're going for now but the Browning Micro Midas is a real sweetie in a Hornet...

I have 2 hornet barrels for the Encore, a standard 24" and a custom shop 26" heavy barrel in a K-Hornet, both are good shooters and keep you around the price limit you've set...

good luck with whatever you get, they sure are a fun round to load and to shoot...

I have a CZ 527 .22 Hornet and it is the most accurate of all the factory rifles I have shot to date. I have a new Anschutz heavy barrel to check out this week. I would highly recommend the CZ rifle. All modern Hornets should have the same bbl dia as a .223 rifle.

Don't understand your long OAL for your reloads unless you are loading them that way for a reason. Rule of thumb for a mag fed rifle is load to the max OAL of the mag. My CZ shoot very well as does my .221 Fireball.

I am with you on that!! ruger77/22h I love mine too. short, light, shoots real good!!! I have drawn alot of blood with that little rifle /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I have a Browning Micro Hunter "A" Bolt in 22 Hornet. It's accuracy is very impressive at 100 yards. Shooting factory ammo from Hornady it consistently shoots sub 1/2" groups.

Brownings come from the factory with a free floated barrel and a glass bedding job. Nothing left but alittle trigger work and you are there.

I too have a Ruger 77/22 Hornet that is a tack driver, though I did have to lighten the trigger and float the barrel. Pretty easy work all in all. When I buy my next 22H, it'll be the Savage 40 or the CZ. I've heard that they are having problems with the Savage 40 and certain brands of ammo, but that is just through the grapevine so there may not be any validity to that.

Waste of metal and wood? Must be the elephants and mice story.
My choice would be the following:
Light and fast handling rifle: Ruger 77/22
Economy: NEF handi
Out of the box accurate: Browning Microbolt
Based on experience with Ruger 77, NEF, Savage, Stevens, A-bolt

I have heard lots of good things about the Browning .22 Hornets but have not see or shot one. They only produce them and bring into the country every so often.

My experience with the 7722H Rugers has not been as good as some of you. I have shot several and have two here right now that will not shoot any better than 2 to 3 inches at 100 with factory ammo. I had two once that started out at 5"'s at 100. Got them down to 2"'s. Had a Ruger #1 that shot really well with one handload.

As mentioned above, can't wait to see what the Anschutz has to offer. It is just way too much money unless it can really shoot well. It will have to do wonders to beat my CZ 527 cause it really shoots well. It shoots all the factory loads well. The worst groups it shoots with factory ammo is better than the best from all the others.

If you are into nostalgia the 22Hornet is great.
There certainly are better choices available today. 60+ years ago the Hornet started the high speed, for that time, 22 cal varmint calibers.

I had one myself back in the '50s and it was great, absolutely top-dog in the 50s.

SteveM- The Browning Micro Hunter A Bolt brings a whole new meaning to the phrase 22 Hornet accuracy. Right out of the box it comes floated and glass bedded.

Guys at the range see the groups that I shoot in front of them and their comments are such as "it ain't supposed to shoot like that". At 100 yards, three shots will be touching each other with factory Hornady 35 gr V-Max while shooting the Hornet with a Leupold 4.5x14x50 VX-III.
