Ruger also makes a nice hornet in the same price range, but it seems to be hit or miss to get an accurate one. There are also several manufacturers who make them for twice as much, and they shoot as good as the CZ. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Ruger and Savage also have rifles chambered for the hornet. I have the Ruger and it shoots pretty good. I do like the looks of the Savage with their trigger in it.

Hawks right! I forgot that Savage made one. I heard it shoots well too, but I think its a single shot(I may be wrong). In Rugers defence, I own one that shoots great, just like my CZ. My calling partner has one (Ruger) that isnt quite as accurate. About 2MOA.
 
Yeah, yeah, yeah....Ruger's won't shoot. Don't even bother with one.

(I have a 77/22Hornet that is a tack driver, but never mind that...nobody believes it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif)
 
Thompson Center make a Contender carbine barrel in 22 Hornet. This is my favorite 22 Hornet.

Oh I believe you Hidalgo! I have a shooter too! I just hear more problems with the Rugers than the CZ's. Seems like theres a bunch of bad Ruger m77/22H's out there giveing the rest a bad name.
 
I'm not a huge CZ fan, with the dopey backwards safety and all, silly bolt that bangs the scope, and ultra high rings needed to combat this design issue, warped stocks........... BUT ....................

I have a ruger 77/22Hornet shoots 1 moa any day.
lil gun with 37 gr calhoon dbbl hp Bangflopped everything
i ever hit with it. nice light rifle with light recoil.
Hornets a great round out to 150 yrds.

Hey, I bought a CZ in .221 and the stock is warped!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gifBeautiful gun but stock rubs the barrel on the right side new out of the box. On a second note, I'm not a savage fan but I did buy a model 40 in 22 hornet and it's a beautiful gun! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Shots decent too. i havn't played with it a whole lot yet but I'm getting around 1" at 100 with a few flyers. Downside is it is a single shot.
 
I am going to get a 22 hornet also. from the 3 manufacturer sights I looked at here are the msrp. ruger 690.00 cz 635.00 savage 452.00 these were all bolt rifles. I prefer savage because I have one in 300 wsm and it shoots 1" at 100yds. 200.00 less is alot of cases and bullets. thanks Brubo
 
I put a 40mm AO with a 1" tube on my 221 CZ American with the factory rings. It's just a matter of getting the scope in the right forward/rearward position for the bolt to clear the ocular lens. Most accounts I've read on the stock touching is a matter of re-assambling the rifle the right way after cleaning it good out of the box. Not that a stock can't warp or bend because it can. Call them for the torque settings when it's re-assembled. That usually fixes that problem as well. HTH
 
Hornets make a great little round for close in work on smaller game. It will never be a 223 or perform like a 223. I started with a TC carbine in 22 hornet. It killed everything it hit (except one coyote that was shooter error)because I knew its limitations. I now have a ruger 77/22H. I am getting fair accuracy with it, but haven't spent a lot of time looking for the right load. I do know it sure is a fun little round to play with. My favorite load was found with the TC using IMR 4227.
 
I had a Ruger Hornet and it was a great shooter. It is my understanding that Ruger had some barrel problems with the early Hornets that has since been corrected. My son talked me out of my Ruger last year (it wasn't that hard to do) so I replaced it with a Cooper. The sales job on the keeper of the check book was one of my better ones, but I won't go into that now. The Cooper so far is doing best with 36 gr. Calhoons and 33 gr. Speer TNT's over Lil Gun. I have more work to do this winter but I am confident I will easily get sub-minute groups. The Hornet is old, un-cool, not very fast, but it is lots of fun to shoot. Out to 200 yds. it absolutely DESTROYS PD's (that's assuming I point it correctly). One of my favorites.
 
I've had 2 Hornets. One a T/C and the other an NEF. After initial load development I reamed them both out to K-Hornets and never looked back. More consistent headspace, less case stretch, more consistent velocity and always more accurate.
 
Well it looks likes there are 4 or 5 of us that have Ruger .22 Hornets that shoot worth a darn! LOL!

I have been more than pleased with the accuracy and performance--like RagnCajn said, within it's limitations. I have had nothing but great performance on coyotes out to 150 yards, but that for me is the max distance on that size game. I am getting 2925 fps from a 40 gr. VMax with 12.5 gr. Lil-Gun.

It is a perfect gun for me in the areas I call where the max range is 100 yards and in.

Claimbuster is right, it's not flashy, it's old and not very cool, but to me all of those things attracted me to it. It has never disappointed me!
