Got a question about a mossberg 535 with a 22 inch barrel turkey gun. I also would like to duck hunt with this gun. Would the 22 inch barrel throw about the same pattern as a 28 inch barrel if both had the same chokes in?
Good point about that. I duck and turkey hunt both with my dads mossberg 500 wen he ain't usin it. It's got a 26 inch barrel and I like it. But I found that 535 at a gun shop brand new and was just wondering about the short barrel never been around one.
the short barrel will be easier to manuver say in a blind or in the brush out turkey/predator hunting, from my expirences though the short barrel is harder to swing on moving birds like ducks/geese.
What makes it harder? Does the shorter barrel not balance out the gun or does it just not swing as smooth as the longer barrels ? Thanks for your input by the way.
For me, the longer barrel swings smoother and gives a better(longer) sight picture of the game.
I grew up shooting a 30" barrel in a 12ga, and a 28" in 16ga and 20ga, ad I still shoot better with the longer barrels.
LOOK at the trap and skeet guns. How many have 20 and 22 inch barrels?
FWIW-For years all my shotgunning was with a 500/28" tube. Now I have the 835/24" tube.I think the maneuverability thing is over rated at least as far as shotguns gnce in a while the longer tube might cost you a critter but it will help you nail them in most cases.
Used a 24inch barrel once.and it was a hot poker...no smoothness of swing and lots of muzzle blast....no darn thank you....have a tactical 24 also and put a poly chioke on it...its allright...but much prefer 28 as overall user....3o inch on an aauto or pump so in effect I have about 34 inches...much smoother swing..reduced muzzle bklast, and full evergy in the shot column and no blowing your buddies ears off...
Hmmm.....guess I'm the only one shooting a 21" barrel on my 870, and a 22" on my Winny 1300, and not having any issues.
When grouse hunting in the woods, it's a natural pointer, and I can get on the birds fast. Thick brush and quick shots...I don't think I'd have any problem keeping up with any of you folks with my shorter barrel's....
Been using them for turkeys too, and we've knocked the snot out of them too.
Haven't hunted ducks since I was a kid...always had longer barrels on the guns for them. Never tried the shorties for ducks.
WHY would it be so hard to buy the gun you want, with the action you want, and just buy a slew of barrels?????
I have multiple barrels for some of my shotguns, and it takes less than one minute to swap 'em, only I like the shorter barrels, so those have been left on, but it wouldn't take nothing to swap back if I was of a mind....

Other than cost it isn't an issue. But when you consider Benelli barrels run about $450.00 each it adds up pretty quick.
