ACCURACY! Ha ha, you thought I was gonna say coyotes...

What do you guys think of Remington Thunderbolt .22 LR ammo? I got a Savage MKII FV and bought one of every kind of .22 ammo Walmart had. Stingers were OK... Remington gold shot slightly better. It didn't seem to like Federal bulk I had, or the Remington Target. It really liked Remington Thunderbolt the best, but I made the mistake of coming home and researching it on the internet and it seems to get horrible reviews for consistency every where I read. Alot of people reported finding squibs and even a few rounds that wouldn't go off no matter how many times they tried.

I'm open to suggestions from other savage MKII owners. Walmart seems to carry mostly Remington 22lr ammo. I'm going get to a few other stores and try to find some federal match, and Eley Match. All my 5 round groups were shot at 50 yard lazered and the thunderbolt ranged from under a nickel to 3/4" pretty consistently. But I wanna here others opinions... Thanks!

Does it work well in your MKII? I got a one hole group with almost everything at 25 but at 50, all but the thunder bolts opened up pretty wide. I will try the SV cci's, they did have box of those in stock. Walmart had a little Winny stuff too, Might try it next. A lot of guys like the Wolf Match, But I have no idea where to even start to look for that, other then the gun show in a few months...

Sorry dont have the same gun as you but I get good results with CCI Quik-Shok out of my 10/22 and my dad gets phenomenal results with it out of his Remington Model 5 (by far one of the most accurate rimfires I have ever shot). My 10/22 I can take down whistle pigs at 50 yards when I do my part. Ive watched my dad taking them out 75 yards and a few beyond that (on non-windy days) pretty consistantly with his gun.

No proof, but I did just get a go pro so this summer Ill have to try filming it a bit.

The most consistent accuracy ammo that I've found will be between the and Aquila Centurion, Remington/Eley "Target Rifle", the CCI Qwik-Shot, and Federal Gold Medal Ultra Match, ...Prices run from $2.25 to $17.95 per 50 rounds

The Remington/Eley Target Rifle (yellow box below) turns in some excellent groups at 50 yards for one of mine, target below is a five round group..
..But it's a little pricey for plinking...Federal Gold Medal Ultra Match is too expensive to shoot unless you are in a money competition...

I have a little over 25 brands/types that I've accumulated, trying to match ammo to my rifles...

My Buckmark is about as finicky gun there is, most bulk ammo will not eject consistently. The CCI SV is excellent, and the one bulk ammo that works satisfactory for plinking is the the CCI Blazer. Give it a try, it is not as consistent as the SV ammo, but is not too shabby either.

This is a bolt action heavy barrel so ejection isn't an issue. I'm not ready to quit buying thunder bolts yet, but I'm not confident enough to buy a brick after reading reviews. I got a one hole group at 25 with the Federal bulk & thunderbolts, which is about as good as you can expect. But I've seen some incredible groups out of these rifles. It shoots great, I'm just looking for opinions. I have a 10-22 that shoots my federal bulk really well, and my Mossberg plinkster is scary accurate with aguila super high velocity. I bought this bolt action 22lr cause my Savage 93fv in 17 HMR is super accurate. So far I'm impressed.

I have had some good groups with Federal auto match in my Kimber target rifle. The Federal is in a white bulk box at Wally World (some stores have them, some don't). This is probably the best "cheap" accurate ammo I've tried in my Kimber without going into the target ammo. SK std + is very accurate, and around $5.00/bx of 50. This is what I normally shoot.

Yeah, I'm gonna find the best shooting "cheap" ammo, and go that route. The whole point of buying this rifle was to save money on ammo. If I get into buying $4-6 per 50 boxes of match grade ammo to feed it, I have defeated my purpose...

In my rifles Win Dynapoints and CCI Subsonics are the best for accuracy wihout breaking the bank. CCI SV's also shoot good but not as good as the other two I listed.

I have started shooting the new Winchester HE 22 Long Rifle. They have been shooting very well,(3/8in groups @50yds) it is a real ground hog killer. I plan to use them on fox this fall. The three ground hogs I shot just laid down. I shoot short hollow points (CCI) most of the time. My go to rifle is a Browing lever action with a Leupold 2x7 rimfire scope. Your Savage should do better. Savage makes a nice rifle.

I have a 93 in 17cal. It is the best rinfire I have ever shot.

The only way you'll ever know what shoots out of your gun is to try everything you can get your hands on, and then watch what happens when you try a new lot # of something that shot well--it's like starting all over again. Overall for me the best cheaper stuff in 5 different handguns was Win. Dynapoints.

For accuracy, Wolfe Match Target or Match extra. Both produce tiny groups at 50yds. in my Savage Tact. Not to pricey for good ammo.

I used Remington .22 LR ammo exclusively for years as my cheap plinking ammo and stockpiled it. The last few years I had so many squibs that I switched to Winchester and sold off all my remaining stores of Rem. No squibs yet with Win.

I did a poor job of explaining myself, let me take another stab at it.

The consistency in powder required to reliably eject a spent shell will also show itself on the target, accuracy is nothing more than consistency. If a box of shells is so inconsistent in its charges of powder that some will eject and others won't, those shells will be inherently inaccurate.

My MKII BV shoots SK Std+ best.I had a LOT of misfires with Rem's Tbolts. They were cheap but never again. For low cost ammo I found Rems subs very accurate in both my BV and 10-22.

Eley....blue box on up. I've had good results with it.

Federal 922a isnt bad for cheaper ammo.

I guess you could try Remington Thunderbolts but my buddy and I both had major problems with massive lead build-up. He actually had strips of lead hanging out of the muzzle of his pistol at one point.

It could have been a "bad" batch, we were sharing a brick. I never tried any more to see if that was a fluke or not, because they (understandably) weren't grouping all that well, either.

Try Wolf MT, lot of people on rimfirecentral recommend it, but it's still going to depend some on your barrel and how it shoots them.
