Sure there's some merit to what you say about the .22 mag not being up to a good 9mm load. But I sure don't want to be shot with a .22 Mag up close and personal as a matter of fact I wouldn't want to be shot with a .22LR either.

For years I have gravitated back and forth from a Ruger 5.5" Target Model semi-auto to a S&W Model 63 stainless revolver with a 4" barrel. Both are very accurate.

Then last winter I bought a Sig Mosquito.

It's 90% the size of a Sig P226 with all the same user controls. Since I bought it, I haven't taken either of the other two hand guns out of their cases. It's accurate and just plain fun to carry and shoot. It's the first 22 handgun I've owned that feels like a full sized handgun.

I have owned Ruger semi-autos for over 40 years, different models and barrel configurations, shot everything from sub-sonic target ammo to HS stuff, pretty much flawlessly.

Put me in the "happy camper" category with the Ruger 22LR pistols.

I have thousands of rounds through the Buckmark and cant remember ever having jamb! I would like to put better sights on it though.

The best 22 rimfire pistol made for a hunting companion is the Colt Woodsman . It is a shame the pistol is no longer produced. My other favorite is my Model 41 Smith with the 5 inch light weight barrel. If i had to purchase a handgun today for trail side carry it would be the Ruger 22/45 with the shortest barrel available. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just picked up a Ruger Single Six in 22lr with a 9 1/2" barrel. Hard to tote but fun to shoot! I did have a Ruger MK1 and liked it too.
 
If possible, try as many as possible. (I have hardly ever been able to try a gun like i thought I wanted before buying YMMV)

When Browning introduced the Buckmark, I wanted one.

When I finally started buying guns for myself, I saw and bought the Ruger MkII 6 7/8" slabside. Then I started buying Ruger .22 handguns regularly.

The only times I have had misfires is with Federal bulk ammo which was over two years old and left at a cabin (not really stored safe the elements).

The only failure to feeds I've had were with Winchester Xpert bulk which were not copper coated. The lead was really soft and would become disfigured as it hit the feed ramp. I stopped using bullets that weren't copper plated (those get fired from the single sixes) and always make sure the feed ramp is clean and slick.
No more problems or other problems over the past 8 years of shooting many Ruger MkII and 22/45 with barrels from 4 to 10 inches.

Maybe I'll buy a Buckmark at some point in the future.....
 
The only FTF I have experienced in my MKII (Gov. Target Model) have been the high velocity yellow jackets. The truncated hollow point would deform on the feed ramp and tie up the gun. Everything else has been pull the (gunsmith tuned and sweet) trigger and bang. I do clean it at least every five years, however, whether it needs it or not! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
I own a 10/22 that I wouldn't trade for any other semi auto .22lr built. It shoots straighter than I can, and it has never had a misfeed from it's 10 round rotary magazine. Aftermarket banana mags on the other hand...... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I also own a couple of Ruger revolvers. My point is that Ruger builds some AWESOME guns. They also have built some that are less than muster. My experience with the MkII pistol sent me to the Buckmark. I haven't looked back. In fact, for Father's Day last year, I bought my dad a Ruger .22/45. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif It's been great so far. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

i agree about the better sights. My back sight seems way to wide, allowing too much movement of the front post. Thus i find the accuracy in mine less then superb, but hopefully that can be fixed with a narrower rear sight.

Unless there is something im not aware of, the BuckMark is made by Browning Arm's Company. At least mine was. If you were sent to the BuckMark then why did you buy your dad a Ruger? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I have shot the Coyote round from OSS and it is pretty stout, as well as the Remington Vmax. In a six inch Ruger barrel, either round is stepping out pretty good. The OSS round is 35 gr. and too hot for semi-auto actions. Anyone know for sure the ballistics vs. a 9mm parabellum round?
