Anyone used [this] ammo on a kill? If so, I would like your opinion [pro's & con's]. Thanks

edit; /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif I'll be useing this ammo, in a 6" revolver. For close contact shots on coyotes/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I have used it in several rifles and it is very accurate but have had no experience with it on yotes. Unless you are in a rimfire only area would never use a .22 mag. Would think it would be even less out of a handgun.

Steve,

No firearms restrictions in Iowa on coyotes. I recently inherited a Ruger Single Six, from my Dad. Thought I'd start packing it along with me. For close-in coyote while callin. I use a Bushmaster AR .223, as well.

Kirby, I wouldn't recommend it a backup.....but as a "self-defense" weapon in case a bobcat jumps on your head or a yote lands in your lap. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Pop 'em with that AR and grin afterwards. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Nibbler,

LOL! I'm not sure who'd be [squallin] more..."Knock'em out John" if one pounced on me. We'd both be a tad pumped, eh /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I was thinking, if I couldn't move my rifle,[pistol on my lap]. Might be able to crank off one rd, with the handgun /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Shot from above going down from opposite shoulder, from approx 40 yards. I like the 33 gr V-Max. Lots of energy expended inside on thicker animals such as groundhogs, never shot a coyote with a 22 Magnum though.

I have an area that I call in each season that is restricted to rimfire or shotgun only. I have never felt right with a shotgun so I tried a Remington Model 597 22 Magnum. With the V-Max ammo you some times get very shallow penatration. I found the CCI 40 gr hollow point to be a more dependable killer on coyotes and bobcats. You must call them in to under 50 yards and place your shots very well and it will kill them bag dead flop. Now with a pistol I would make very sure of my shot or let them walk.

Anyone else, ever had good results with a [particular] type bullit. On coyotes, useing a .22 mag pistol at close range?

Thanks for anymore input.

Kirby I've shoot a couple of yotes with the Remington V-Max. Keep your shots under 100 yards. They both dropped in their tracks.

Not my first choice of weapons for yote hunting, but if that's all you have, then go for it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

You might be better served shooting a solid to get maximum penetration though. I like the Federal 30 grain TNT bullet the best. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I sometimes carry my Ruger Single Six in 22 mag. It shoots well and will do the job. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Just know your limitations with smaller calibers and all is good. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was with a buddy who has a ruger 9622 mag(the lever gun) and he shoots those bullets. I watched him shoot a 19 lb male badger at 50 yrds quartering away and he placed it perfect like an arrow...up into the boiler room and i've never seen such a good 'bang flop'. He was only an inch off the ground to begin with(such a low built animals with short legs) that it hardly looked like he even dropped. Its as if it just stopped moving...it barely twitched. No exit and about a 1/2" entrance wound. I also watched him shoot a coyote broadside at 40 yrds and had about the same size entrance and a little bigger exit and the coyote did a typical 40 yrd runner before cartwheeling. Hope that helps...it's the round i'd likely choose for that caliber.

I use a .223 AR.

Just thought, I'd take along my revolver. In case a coyote was to blind side me. Bang! go's the revolver /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif. BRRRRRRRRRUUUURP, go's Charlene, rippin on his hiney /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

wooly, busy loading my de-banned mags /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
