.22 Mag recommendations?

Hi all. I am considering purchasing a .22 Mag. I prefer a semi auto. This is going to be my night hunting rifle for coyotes. Does anyone have any recommendations? Accuracy is my main concern. Thanks in advance.

I've had nothing but problems with the Ruger and Marlin semi auto's in the cold. I'd personally recommend the CZ or the Marlin 982VS, both are great shooting and reliable 22 mags.

Just buy you a Savage 93 Bolt rifle . One of the most accurate 22 WMR's on the market and the price won't break the bank.

I just purchased a .22 mag yesterday /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I really had no luck at all finding a 22mag semi, that was affordable, both the rugers and the marlins have become way overpriced and hard to find.

Excel arms makes one atm that is pretty dang cool, pricey and so far what I have heard from my gun shop friends, they are a bit iffy on the reliability end of things, Im just waiting for the bugs to get worked out then maybe ill get one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I went with the savage 93, havent shot it yet but can tell im gonna love it.

Marlin 983VS. It's a heavy barrel but the gun doesn't way that much at all, and accurate to boot.

Here's mine with the current paint job.

Not sure about a semi-auto, but I sure do love my Marlin bolt action 22WMR topped off with a cheapy Simmons Prairie Master 4-16x40 scope available from Natchess... I shoot the Remington Premier 33 grain ammo w/ very good success. This was a 140 yard headshot kill on a groundhog last summer...I have killed 3 g- hogs last summer all in the head at that same brushpile out back. I can hit golf balls at 125 yards probably 6-7 times out of 10, so I would say it is a fairly accurate rifle.

marlin 882SSV bolt action, mags are easy to come by and cheap. Micro groove barrel can't be beat. The 882SSV is a bull barrel gun with a bead-blasted dull stainless finish. Get a set of Millett steel rings and buff the trigger/sear a tiny bit (and I mean tiny bit) Use the money you saved versus buying a crap Ruger and put a good scope on it.

There is always a good lever gun too, that with practice you can be almost as fast as a semiauto.

There's my $0.02

Totally forgot about magnum research, They redo the 10/22 and I am pretty sure they still make magnums/hmr versions.
They are pretty expensive tho.

Lever guns are pretty sweet as well, Not sure but they may still make pumps too, which would be pretty sweet

I saw a Brno semi 22 mag at the gunshow last weekend that sure looked nice until I looked at the price tag. They wanted $650.00 for it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

If you want the best semi-auto 22 mag, I would try to find BRNO ZKM-611. These little rifles are extremely well made and very accurate for a 22mag, they have hammer forged barrels, all steel reciever and nice walnut stocks. They are getting really hard to come by, but if you can find one it will only increase in value. The ones I have found run between 550-900 depending on the condition.

Good luck in your quest!

WildEd.....I would have jumped all over that BRNO! These rifles are no longer made and will continue to rise in price. They are much better made than any Ruger 10/22mag which command comparable prices

Yep /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have a marlin 922m S/A 22 mag that is extremely accurate. After about 40-50 rds it developes extraction/ejection problems. I don't think it is the rifle though. 22mag ammo is dirty shooting stuff-kinbda like wolf ammo.
I haven't tried the new Hornady ammo with the soft tip bullets yet. Maybe it will be a little cleaner burning.
For the money, it is hard to beat the savages.

I just got this CZ LUX 22 mag last week, first CZ I've had. went out to shoot it with a 15 MPH winds so the groups at 50 yards aren't bad using CCI MAXI MAG 40 grain HP and Winchester 45 grain Dynapoints shot bad. This is a fun gun to have and take P-Dogging to WY this summer. I adjusted the triger down to 2.75 for now. If the mud drys up I will go out and test more rounds. GENE'O

best 22 mag I ever shot was an old H&R model ???semi auto.(somebody help me with the model number, had a clip)never jammed no matter how fast you pulled the trigger and very accurate also, dont know why I sold it but my ruger 22 mag has been redone and is a tack driver and no problems,,love it

That BRNO is a sweet looking little setup. I need to keep my eyes peeled it looks like. I wonder how it'll feed at 40 below? The Ruger and Marlin semi autos work good down to about zero it seems, and then they go south from there. The Marlin 882SSV is an awesome little 22 mag in my book.

UPDATE:

In light of Massachusetts regulations, I realized that I am unable to use a .22 mag at night. So, I purchased a Savage Model 93R17BTVS. This is one sweet rifle. It's bolt action, with a stainless bull barrell and thumbhole stock. After sighting it in, I was able to put a 5 round group on a postage stamp at 50 yards! I haven't been able to get to a longer range yet, but I am already quite impressed with this gun. I'm sure to raise hell with the crows with it also. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
