.22 Mag recommendations?

How is it that you can use a 17HMR (a 22WMR necked down to 17cal) but can't use the same rimfire in 22cal? Is it that Mass. restricts night hunting to 17Cal, or some other reason?
I'm not busting your chops, just curious how they came up with that brilliant decision. Lawmakers never cease to amaze me, especially when it comes to firearms.
By the way,, I just replaced the Acu-Trigger with a Basix in my buddies new 93R17 (he didn't care for the Acu-Trigger) and from what I saw it looks like a nice little rifle. I bet you'll like yours.

that seems odd to me too, I dont know why they would just say any rimfire but .22 magnum... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

In any case sounds like you have a nice rifle to shoot, I had an HMR not too long ago, was pretty fun to shoot.

Well, the law states that you may use rimfire rifles chambered for no larger than .22LR. I was told that the .22 mag is illegal to use at night.
 
22 mag and 17 HMR are both illegal night guns in Massachusetts. 22 LR only.

To clarify its the size of the cartridge not the caliber, or I would have used a 17 Remington years ago.

I have verified this time and again over the years.

Best get yourself a 12 gauge, and spend the summer working up the tighest load you can, or buy a handgun under 38 caliber. Both LEGAL at night.

All rifle caliber handguns under 38 caliber are LEGAL at night.

Any centerfire in the daytime ......... thats why i learned to hunt them in daylight.

WWAAAAAYYYY easier at night though.

The Marlin Bolt action is an extremely accurate in several that I have shot with the Winchester 40g HP.

Nice thing about the marlin bolt is that you replace the factroy trigger spring with an ink pen spring and you have a really nice trigger!
 
I have had several Marlins in the past that were good shooters. They are since long gone in favor of this sweety that likes to be feed 50 grain solids.
