.22 mag revolver

One of the gun companies that always sends me emails just came out with a bunch of trade in S&W M-66 in .357 on sale for a real good price for a stainless Smith in good condition.

I have owned several revolvers and for me,I think 4 inch is best overall,6 inch at the longest.Longer than 6 inch just get a short rifle, its not much harder to deal with.If you wanted to stay with your first idea a S&W .22 in 4 inch is really nice, shoots good, holds value, you can be proud to show it to a friend when they ask what you carrying.I have been around the horn a couple of trips and for fun and something that will do 90% of what most people wind up doing,a good .22 is hard to beat.
For hunting a .22 hollow point is recommended.Solids just don't work near as good,a Stinger for example is a good round for varmints at close range.

For a dedicated hunting(only gun you are taking with you, no rifle) and range gun than the longer barrels are where it's at but if you're packing it as a second gun the shorter barrels shine. 4" for DAs and 4 3/4" for SAs. Still plenty long for hitting what ya aim at.

I was looking at the EAA Bounty Hunter, but I dont know if I could throw a red dot on it or not. Either way it has fixed sights.....

I have a 22mag in a 6" revolver and it is LOUD! I pretty much only use the 22lr cylinder cause it isn't as hard on the ears..

I have had 4" and 6" .357's. For hunting I would go with the 6" if u r going to use mainly .357's in it, and not use it for CCW. I often carry a 44mag with an 8" barrel in a shoulder holster. It is very comfortable.

I agree, I think the 22 mag/lr are underated. They can do what you wanted, and you would have a lighter, smaller handgun, with cheaper ammo, assuming you dont reload. I just picked up a 22 mag for CCW, somepeople think it wont get the job done, I will be betting my life that it will.

What brand and model 357 do you have?

Thanks

I had a Taurus 66 with a 6" barrel. I had a smith 686 4". I currently own a Ruger blackhawk with a 6" barrel. All in 357. All are nice pieces, even the Taurus. The smith just wasn't as fun to shoot.

eph cheap and accurate . no . my 6"- 586 will shoot small groups. 5 coyotes, 3 deer , 8 javelina. accurate and deadly . not that cheap. less than a colt python.

Yeah it does. It really likes those Aguila 30 grain Hyper Velocity bullets. They are very accurate and fast. Haven't Chrono'd them from the pistola but it says 1740 fps on the box...

That made me laugh. I am glad I am not the only one. I love my stainless SS but 50 yards is a bit much for me.

I have a couple .45 single actions.I shot cowboy for a while and shot a lot.Cowboy was close range with light bullets and loads.Longer range was heaver bullets and loads.>45 I think is a great round and can be versatile.Hot loads are hard on brass and I would rather see them used in Rugers.Had mine slicked up for competion and now they are to touchy to hunt with and way to touchy for defense hadgun unless you are sure you want to shoot cause they love to shoot.Ha

Accurate as they are though, I still doubt I could hit a Squirrel at 50yrds and believe the OP is setting his "sights" unrealistically high.

Best thing to do IMO, is buy a nice little 22 (like the Single Six) and learn how to shoot it. Then move up to something nicer when you know what your needs really are and can afford it.
