22 Rimfire competition??

I built a 10/22 a few years ago to shoot rimfire or smallbore silhouette mostly because I wanted cheap practice for highpower and BPCR silhouette.
Plus I get bored shooting at paper targets, knocking steel rams over at 500 meters or 100 meters is alot more fun than poking holes in paper for me.
With the setup you allready have all you have to do is find a range and go shoot.

After researching shooting accurate 22's a while back I did read that certain lot #'s of ammo will shoot better than others. "Magic lots" They reccommended buying a box of several lot #'s and if you found one that shot great. Stock up! Interesting that they reccommended Mini Mags. I think most ammo for 22lr target is the slow stuff. I recently got a batch of CCI Green Tag which is supposed to be CCI's target/compettition bullet. It only runs at 1070fps.Very expesive compared to bulk 22lr however. And a far cry from the Quik Shoks that are 1640fps I believe. Also got some Wolf Match extra thats supposed to be good also. Pricey stuff for plinkin! Please keep everyone posted on your findings.
 
I was surprised about the mini-mag recommendation fron Volquartsen. I just never had much luck with the stuff. Seems even the guns that would shoot it okay would always shoot something else better.....
 
A buddy who had a gun shop bought a small property with a .22 range and shed already built.We had a great time shooting .22 Everyone could shoot and it was just great fun with a lot of bragging and teasing.But,someone bought a lot close to it and started complaining to the local commissioners about noise and next thing you know they made us stop shooting.We did fight it till it became to expensive to go further.Long story.It's crap when they use tax dollars to fight you with.
 
Yep. It always pi$$es me no end when someone buys property next an airport or a race track and then gripes about the noise. Then they try to get rid of it. .......... I'd better not get started.

I have never had any luck with "CCI anything" The best we have found for cheap is Federal Old blue&Red Box and Newer Blue box you might try them if you have not already. We bought everything in standard velocity we could find and ran it all through a 37 Rem, CZ453v, 52c Win, Kimber 82 G's, H&R 12 G's, (3) 40x Rems, and several custom 10/22's.... all blind test with different shooter and the Fed's did best.

I shoot in 2 a month. they are "tactical"... Prone with a bipod. 25-200 yards. and sitting kneeling standing... its alot of fun.

I Shoot a CZ 452 Scout with an after market stock, and a yo dave trigger spring and shim kit.

I use CCI standard velocity. and it works good enough to win the last match.

I conducted similar tests 5-6 years back and also had the best luck overall with Federal. My 22 mag will shoot Fed 40 OR 50gr loads into tiny groups. It shoots mini-mags the worst of anything. Have had similar results with other 22s also. Winchester silver box stuff also seems to shoot acceptably well in most. Or at least I have never had it shoot all over the map like some mini-mags have in some rifles I've owned. I must say I'm a little behind the times when it comes to 22 LR ammo. But I'm looking to change that. A lot of new offerings have hit the market in the last 10 years. I still have some old Eley Target rifle rounds I have never shot. At the time, they were regarded as one of the best, but there was nowhere near the amount different loads on the market then.......
 
Nice shooting. I like your rifle, but a scope mounted that high would drive me nuts. Bugs me just looking at it. Don't take it personal, but I would seriously consider getting lower rings and getting rid of that spacer. But that is just my opinion.........

some guys I shoot 22's with really like Wolf target ammo. price is not too bad for target type ammo. Last time they bought a case it said Lapua on the bottom. With several different guns it is unusual for them "not" to cut a 5 shot ragged hole @50yds I shoot against them with the federals and do well but seem to get a flyer more than they do. The wolf are sub sonic, feds are not. I have read that sub S will generally be more consistant do to not passing through the sound barrier where strange things happen. I laugh when I beat them with the 10 year old fed's @ 87 cents a box. They laugh and say look what you spent on a 40x Rem, 36x leupold, Mcmillan stock, and jewell trigger. The shoot is very informal, we shoot a dollar a person, best 5 shot group inside a 1 inch circle @ 50yds. if you touch the circle in any way your out. We usually have 10-12 guys shooting. It's gonna take me a while to pay for the rig. LOL

Ken, NPHA hosted a pretty cool online rimfire competition on the forum for it's members this year. It's just winding down now and has been a fun few months! Eight different targets, from 25-200yds, and ALOT of fun!!! Positions ranged from standing offhand, to seated/stix, to prone, to bench. Each segment held a different challenge. Man, I burned about 1500rds of .22 alone in the last two months...

After we lost our .22 range everyone sort of quit shooting .22 and I sold 2 of my rifles and gave one to my grandson.Wish I had the 2 I sold back now.
 
Old Turtle, What town in Missouri are you from? I am in Rolla and shot on the UMR ROTC rifle team for a couple of years. 1966-1967. Good times.

Good luck to ya. I tried to find something like that in Missouri and can't find any place that does it. I envey you guys with the cool gun clubs that do all this stuff
