Darknight - The groups you are shooting are fine for the 22 mag.
I'll offer up the 22 mag field experience I have had. I've owned a 22 mag in one variation or another many years, and they are a fun little gun to shoot, but ammo is a bit expensive.
I have a little bit of coyote/bobcat killin' experience with the 22 mag. And I mean just a little bit. Only 2 bobcats and 5 coyotes. All except 1 was shot under 75 yards with Winchester 40 gr JHP. Both cats were recovered in under 90 yards, and 5 out of 5 coyotes died. But only 4 of the coyotes were recovered on the day of the shot. No bangs flops, and all dogs did the classic spin and run. They were all hit behind the shoulder except the one I did not recover the same day.
The coyote I lost was shot face on about 50 yards with CCI 33 grain +V. Found him a week later, not far away while deer scouting.
When I use the 22 mag ( forced by law or landowner ) in a few situations, I must pass up shots that are easily made with a centerfire. Its kind of like bowhunting, you just have to let X amount of animals walk. Can't make a shot out of nothing, as you will just wound.
Limit your shots to 75 yards and under, perfect broadside, on a standing animal. Hit them tight befind the shoulder, and they will not run too far. Keep your eye on them after the shot, and watch them as far as possible. I prefer some tracking snow before hunting with the 22 mag.
Don't care what ammo folks use, Vmax or otherwise, its still a 22 mag, and a 100 yard shot is pushing the envelope very, very hard. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Remember, you will HAVE to let some walk, and as long as you are OK with that, you're all set.
