220 Swift Loads

I just started working up some loads for my 220 and wondered what some of your favorite loads were.
Do you have one load for varmints and another for coyote or one load for both?
What are your favorite bullets, powder, primers?

Thanks.......Bob

Bob, I shot the old Ruger tang safety 220 Swifts and the Savage J models.

My favorite load was 43.5-44.5g of AA2700 with a 50g NOsler Ballistic tip, Fed 210 primer, bullet touching the lands, and it works very well with chucks, yotes, and crows.
Velocity is a solid 4000 fps. Accuracy was three shots in a hole.

If you want a nice low pressure but very accurate load try 35 grains if IMR 3031 with a 55 grain Vmax or Nosler BT bullet. An old man that I once knew gave me this load and I never found a Swift that did not like it. Standard primers will be fine.

Another load that I like is 43 grains of H414 with a 40 grain Nosler BT. CCI BR cap sparks this one. This load just blows prairie dogs into pieces so small that you could scrape them up into a thimble. This load was given to me by an employee of Krieger barrels. Lots of one hole 100 yard groups with this one.

I have tried lots of 220 Swift loads during the last 35 years. One of these two fills the bill for me.

Thanks for the replies, guys.
Just wondering if any of you have tied any of the Hodgdon Extreme powders. I was looking at H-4895. I see on their site that it seems to give pretty good velocities and somewhat lower presures. Also with the temps in the 90's in summer and teens in winter here in Pa., the extreme powder might be a good choice.
What do you think?

Bob, IMR 4064 is a classic for the Swift. Varget is very close in burning rate to the 4064.

We also found that the AA2700 gave extended barrel life over the 4064, but we were in a target rich enviornment, losts of shooting.

Targets did not seem to know the difference between 75* and 25*. I added .5g more powder for Hunting in N. Nevada in the winter...temps were so cold that the yotes would freeze into hairy popsicles in the trailer we were pulling behind our truck over night...skinning half froze yotes is another story.

mine liked the same amount of IMR 4064 as my 243 37.5 grains with a 52 gr match.
it was great i could load both without changing the scale and measurer. [not fur friendly]
it blew bigger holes then the 243.

PABob,My rem 700 VSSF likes the same load that ackleyman mentioned except i use winch. primers instead of federal.1/2 groups at 100 and will break an inch at 300.You ought to see what it does to a crow shot at 75 to 100 yds.Mime is running about 4000 fps also.

Well, I worked up some loads using IMR 4064 (had some on hand) with Rem brass, CCI BR-2 primers and Nosler CT/BST bullets. Right now it looks like 37.6 grs is the most accurate. Still have some tweaking to do and I'm going to play with the bullet seating depth. I'm shooting a Ruger #1 so I don't have to worry about it being too long for the magazine.

Thanks for all the replies........Bob
