221 fireball loads?

I don't wanna jack the thread but, could you load a furball down for a quiter noise levels with an even faster powder. Like AA number 5, or maybe Red Dot?

Wow. 20 grains of 1680, that's a bit hot for me. The heaviest book load for 40 grain bullets I can find is Hornady at 18.3 gr of 1680 and a 40 gr VMax. How are your primer pockets on subsequent reloadings? What primer are you using? I bet that does work well on predators.

Lil gun is too fast for full power loads in the 221. It is more suited to the Hornet.

I dunno Jack.

I get 3350 fps out of my 221 with 16 grains of Lill Gun. Bolt lift is easy and have never lost a case. I have tried some other loads but have yet to find anything that gives as good a combination of speed and accuracy. Good buddy uses it in his home made Stevens actioned gun with excellent results too.

If I find something better I will use it. So far, Lill Gun works the best for me.

I tried 17 grains of RL7 behind a 40 grain v-max today in this rifle....the CZ 527 American...rem 7 1/2 primers...it was windy so I didn't go beyond 50 yards...but at 50 yards, I will have to say I was impressed by this little cartridge.

I plan to load up about 50 of this load, and do some shooting when the wind is settled a little bit, and see what she will do at 100 yards. I may have to tweak it a bit, but this gun will be my primary, go to predator rig, for fox and the rare chance that I may see a coyote as well.

TN crittergitter.....Thanx for a fine rifle! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Matt N, The Lee Manual shows 20.5gr of AA1680 as a max. load I have not tryed that high did not see the need as this load shoots great and has plenty of speed.I have reloaded this brass five times primers still tight so its working for me. I shot three coons and one coyote with it last night. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif The coyote was stepping across a fallen limb when I shot she just draped across it never twitched.

I have a Fireball in a Remington 700 LVSF that just loves RL 7 with 40 gr. Sierra Blitz Kings and CCI BR-4 primers. It's pure poison on groundhogs. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

im burning up 17gs of 4227 with a 40 grain vmax never chronoied it it shoots way to good to worry about it out of my lvsf Ron

my favorite load in my CZ 527 is 19.4 grs RL7 behind the 40 gr Nosler BT. It gets me 3185 fps avg and 3/4" or less 5 shot groups average.

15.7 grs Lilgun and the same 40 gr NBT gets 3400 fps but not as good of accuracy

Ive only shot two coyotes with the 221, but it worked awesome in both cases. First was 300y with 40 gr NBT, and 2nd was 230 yards with 45 gr Barnes TSX. Both ended in a near instant death. I also shot a mule deer with the 45 gr TSX load and it worked awesome on a 100y broadside lung shot with exit!

awesome cartridge....
