are there any factory rifles chambered for 221fieball? and is there any gain over .223 in accuracy potential or velocity advantage, looking for something new in a out to 300 yd, moa varmint rifle

There are a few .221 Fireball caliber rifles out there.

You can probably do a search on this site and get scads of information.

I have two CZ 527 rifles and both are sub 1/2 MOA rifles off the bench. I get higher velocity in my 22 inch barrel .221 than my .223 in the 16 inch AR platform (both with 50 grain factory ammo). By the way, there is much less muzzle report (Bang!) noise with the smaller capacity cartridge.

If you get a .221 Fireball rifle, you will be hooked.

Good shooting,

Karl in Phoenix

The CZ is about the only one being made right now I believe. They are very accurate rifles. You can also find the Remington 700 Light Varmint Stainless Fluted (LVSF) rifles chamber for it new in the box. There are usually about three or four listed on gunbroker. These are a nice rig also and seem to shoot. I have had a couple in different calibers, not a 221FB(yet). . Another one of the guns Remington should have kept. I think you will like it if you buy one.

I have a CZ 527 in .221 Fireball and it is truly a nice rifle. You can look at it on the archive section on gunblast.com and even see my ugly mug shooting it:)

Oh no! It looks like we will soon have us another Fireball addict!

It started out simply enough for me- I got a good deal on a CZ527 in that caliber. Did a little internet browsing as to what might be a few good loads for it and after mounting a nice scope (Bushnell 3200 5-15X) on it went and had some serious fun with it. Ground squirrels out to 275 yards and prairie dogs out past 300 yards with the little 40 grain Vmax are no problem at all. I was amazed even how well this thing would shoot. So much fun! And many a 5 shot group all touching at 100 yards. What more do you need? Get one!

Us Furball junkies are hardcore. If you ever own one, you will find out why.

Oh, and they work pretty durn well on coyote too! The picture of me at left shows a young dog that I called in with a Foxpro and nailed with the Furball loaded with those 40 grain Vmax bullets. Light and handy gun that 527 CZ is!

That remington is the LVSF which has been discontinued. Don't pay that for one, you can find them for $600-$650. There are also some Rem 700 Classics that were chambered in 221. You can find them NIB once in awhile and used pretty easily. I would probably look at the CZ if I wanted a guaranteed shooter.

I'm torn between getting a CZ 221 Fireball and a Model 7 17 Fireball. I keep flip flopping which means I should buy both. I sold my CZ 17 Remington and will be in need of a smaller than .223 rifle soon. Do you think I would miss the speed of the .17FB if I went with the .221?

ok i have a savage model 12 lrpv (the right bolt-left eject) in .204, it shoots really good, but we have a lot of light to med. wind that wreaks havoc on the 20cal,could i just rebarrel, or should i go new,

I vote new! The .204 in itself is a great cartridge (got one of those too) and I think that you would miss it and kick yourself in the butt many times over for getting rid of it. But there is something... well... charming about the Furball. It's just...so dang cute that you just love it holding it in your hand. It only takes about 15 grains of powder to make it speak and it just shoots so very well. I just dont have any other centerfire rifles that I find so dang friendly as that little Remington. It just blows ground squirrels into pink vapor out much further than you think it would. It is quiet an I LOVE those CZ set triggers too! Keep the .204 and save them pennies and getcha onena dem CZ 527 .221 Furball. Heck, I KNOW it is a FIREBALL, but it just too feaking CUTE to call it a Fireball when Furball fills the bill so much better. Seriously? You will love that gun more than your 1st new girlfriend. Maybe not as much as that first new puppy, but it close. Trust me.

rustydust speaks the truth! i have a cz 527 in 221 fireball and it just plain shoots. it is ridiculously accurate, even with factory ammo....clover leafs all day long. i don't think you will be disappointed. chris
