.222 or .17 HMR ?

Not many gun makers offer it anymore,cz and maybe remington. They are great little rounds and very accurate, just like a 223 pretty much, but harder to find ammo for!

if your hunting coyotes.-------.223

if your saving fur on fox----------.17rem.

if your starting hunting----------buy both>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If you don't have a nice day, thats your problem.

.222 was a big benchrest round back in the 50's and 60's. I had one that I sold to "upgrade" when I was younger and dumber. Still wish I had that old rem. 788 back.

Triple deuce all the way.It can do anything the .17 will and much, much more.CZ might be the only one still making them but you'd be hard pressed to find a better gun than their 527.

It's interesting that this is the second thread in a couple of weeks wondering about comparing these two calibers.

Apples and oranges and although I do think the HMR is a great 125 yard fox gun, the two cannot be compared in any meaningful way.

The HMR is simply not in the same genre of firearms as the .222.

You can't really compare a centerfire to a rimfire. The HMR is for for small game. The 222 Rem is a great cartridge, very accurate and in some cases, fur friendly. To get the most out of it you should reload. Factory ammo in my neck of the woods is easy to find. Just my $0.02.

I have a savage model 340 222 and I love it... so much in fact I bought a savage Model 10 .223 and took the barrel off and an am in the process of threading a barrel and chambering it in 222.

I also love a .222 cause the general consensis is .223 and I want to be diffrent.

I like the way you think.

If you shoot cheap re-man ammo from a .223 it is cheaper to shoot. If you handload...not so much.

Not that I want to be different but the 222 is the first centerfire rifle I ever shot. It was my Dad's 722 Rem. that I now have since my Dad passed away. The first centerfire I owned was my Uncle's Savage 340 in 222. Right now I have 3 222's,my Dad's 722, a Sako L461 Vixon and an old Rem Mod 7 with a 18 1/2 inch barrel. I guess I just have a love affair with the 222.

And if you reload it's just as cheep as many other cartridges to shoot.

I reload every centerfire I own... including pistol..
I started shooting with a family friend when I was 10... It was a 22-250 off the bench... I fell in love with it and the 222 also. Will not be with out one or 2 or 3 of them..
I am looking forward to finishing this savage model 10 in .222.
This family friend and myself and our other hunting buddy went in togather and bought a gunsmithing lathe and a ton of other stuff from a gunsmiths estate sale back in '95...we have had so much fun with this stuff.....
