.222 or .17 HMR ?

PABob- thats cool that you have a model seven in 222. i just bought a 222 remington in model seven. it was a limited 1 of 222 run with a light burly maple stock. it's currently in shipment to me. i can't wait, hearing you guys talk about them makes me anxious

I believe tikka also makes a .222

The .222 can be handloaded down into the 22mag velocity range you can add a little more speed to give it better trajectory. Its just expensive if you don't roll your own. You could really work up a nice small game load for taking heads off of critters.

.223 is better because it can do anything the .222 can. The ammo is a lot cheaper and easier to find if you don't reload.

The 222 will shoot circles around a 17 HMR.. I had a 17, sold it. I still have my triple duece..

Personally I do not see the 223 being cheaper to shoot than a 222. They both shoot the same caliber bullets, use the same primer and the 222 uses less powder. Brass is only a few bucks more than 223. Or you can run 223 brass through a 222 die and trim it..

Oh foxy this is a baited topic lol. .222 is far superior with minimal pelt damage. It is extremely accurate and will anchor a coyote at 250 yards. Excelent gun for fox both grey and red, coyote and bobcat....hmr...not so much.

I see you say your rifle is in shipment. Where did you get it from? Grice's Gun Shop (about an hour from my home) has the on sale right now. I believe they also have them in;

244 Remington 1of 244

257 Roberts 1of 257

250 Savage 1 of 250

My wife bought it for me for my birthday. Remington said it was made in 1984.

I just know you'll love it as I do mine.
