Welcome aboard Jeff.
I have never had or shot a .222 Remington in 14" T/C Contender, but I have had way more than my share of .223 Remington T/C Contender Handguns over the years.
I currently have a new (just bought it in December) Stainless-Steel Super 14 .223 Remington T/C G2 Contender. When I got this barrel I had like 600 rounds of .223 ammo left over from a previously owned AR-15 .223. The ammo was loaded with 55gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips with H-4895 Powder in Military LC Brass with Remington 7 1/2 Primers.
This ammo was taylored to the AR, and I wasn't too sure how it would shoot in the 14" Contender Handgun. My groups during my barrel break in procuedure were good, but nothing like it has turned in since. A couple weeks ago I went to the range on a beautiful winter day (30 degrees and no wind). I set up at 100 yards shooting off of a front Bench Rest and Sand Bag under the grip.
I shot 6 - 3 shot groups with the 3x12x Burris LER Handgun Scope set between 6x & 12x. The largest 3 shot group I fired that day was 1/2" and the smallest just under 1/4" at 100 yards.
While I have never owned a .222 Remington I have long been under the impression that that cartridge is at it's best with bullets weighing 50 grs. or less. I would think that would also hold true for the .222 Remington in a 14" Handgun. I would think that with the right handloads or factory ammo that your barrel prefers, you should indeed be able to shoot some mighty fine groups with it.
I have used the .223 Remington in T/C Contender Handguns for all sorts of Varmints, from Flickertail Gophers to Prairie Dogs to Crows to Coyotes over the years. These T/C Handguns can be and are addicting. I currently have 3 Stainless-Steel T/C G2 Contender Frames with 3 Barrels and another one on order as I type this, and am saving up for the 5th barrel.
Again welcome aboard and enjoy that T/C.
