Any members shooting the .222 Rem Mag with 40 gn bullets? I’m wanting to try the 40 gn Sierra HP for fox.
Anyone used this combo or any other 40gn bullet? Powder will be AR2207 ( equiv. In US is H4198).
I am using a Sako L461 standard rifle.
Thanks, Jay

I shoot a 22-204 which is about like a 222 Rem Mag Improved, slightly more capacity than the 222 RM. The 222 RM is very close to the 223 AI in capacity. Hornady and Lyman have plenty of data for the 222 RM with 40gr bullets. 4198 is a little on the fast side for the 222 RM with heavier bullets but from the data shown should work well with the 40's.

I shoot 40gr NBT's out of my 22-204 for coyotes and have a feeling that full power loads of 40gr HPs in the 222 RM will be a little heavy handed for fox if your trying to save fur, if not saving fur DRT should be the story of the day.

Good luck to you let us know how it works.

Those are in the hornet speed category of bullets, typically below 3000 fps and short to moderate range. They can run 3500 fps, out of slower twist rate barrels but will be very explosive.

I just looked that bullet up and Sierra list it as a high-speed rifle bullet and it might be a little hard for use in the Hornet.

I have 2 of them and both shoot great. Brass can be formed from 204 if it’s hard to find. 40&50 gr bullets work very well in both guns. I’ve even pushed 35gr vmax threw them with good accuracy.
