ok i am looking at the howa 1500 model guns. i am wondering what the accuracy difference will be in the 20'' bull barrel model or the 22'' standard weight barrel. i will primarily be shooting inside 300 yards due to lack of open terrain. but i just wondered if i put a quality scope on whichever one will i achieve the same results? any advice wud be appreciated

Howa triggers arent the best from the factory, Mine has a Timney. as far as barrels, Id let my hunt determine that, I have a heavy barrel on mine, and dont carry it much. It kind of depends upon the purpose of the rifle is.

I have an Howa Axiom 1500 in .22-250. The trigger is a little creepy, but not the worst I've shot. It is a very accurate gun even with the factory trigger, on par with my Savage Model 10. Mel's sniper page has a good review on them.

I would go with the 20" heavy barrel.

I like the lighter weight of std barrels. There's a fair amount of walking involved where I hunt plus now with all the snow I have to wear snowshoes or stay home.

I've found 22" barrels to be about the perfect compromise for my walking varminters.
Light enough to carry yet long enough to keep respectable velocity.

I was talking to a friend about the use of sporter barrels and heavy barrels. I'm getting older and don't walk a whole bunch. Even so I still walk with it and it doesn't bother me.

But as my friend said "We're snipers" preferring to hide and wait for a target. And he is right, I've always enjoyed hiding and waiting.

Between a heavy 20" and a std 22" I'd probably prefer the 22" though.
