.223/5.56 vs. 7.62x39?

If you could only own one AR for coyotes and hogs, would you rather have, a .223/5.56 or a 7.62x39? I currently have an AR-15 in .223/5.56, but have recently been thinking about the 7.62x39 round. I am only familiar with the 7.62/.308 round, and have never used the smaller 7.62x39.

Thanks for any info you may have to offer!

For me it would depend on how big of a hog are you hoping for?

If you're more interested in population control and targeting the smaller pigs a good .223 bullet should work just fine, coyotes too. If you want to target the biggest porker around a 7.62 might be more appropriate.

Just my 2 pennys.

7.62x39 in an AR is not the greatest. It has been known to have feeding/ejecting problems. If you are looking for a .30cal round in an AR check out the .300blk. You can get factory loads from 110grains to 220grains. It was developed to run with a suppressor, but the lighter stuff and it has better ballistics than the 762x39. It fits in your standard AR mags, uses your bolt and carrier. The only thing that is different is the barrel.

Well, there was a possible opportunity to trade for the 7.62x39. I didn't like the info I found on my search so I decided to keep my .223. It's a great shooter, and I didn't feel the need to roll the dice on something that that does not provide that much upside. I thank you all, for your helpful comments.
