223 ammo choices

OK guys, I'm looking for an all around factory ammo for my AR15. I'm going to be hunting fox/coyote/raccoon/ground hog/etc. I'm wondering if there is a bullet, besides FMJ, that will be good at putting them on the ground with minimal pelt damage to the fox/coyote. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Check YOUR states regulations. FMJ's are illegal for hunting in some states.
I don't have any really good suggestions as to .223 ammo. But, don't despair there will be others along shortly that will be able to offer you some good suggestions.

I would be careful with the V-max if you are considering keeping the fur. The V-max will put them all down hard, but those bullets can be hard on fur. You might want to look at a hollow point bullet as an alternative that will allow for less fur damage.

My AR is a 1:7 twist so it likes the heavy bullets better. I haven't found anything off the shelf in the 65-75 grain range. Thinking of rolling my own. Check your twist rate.

I have found the Black Hills 60 grain v-max to be a superior offering, and not bad on fur.

If fact, it often doesn't even exit a coyote or bobcat. Fox are another story as they are thin skinned and smaller.

The 60 vmax has accounted for a bunch of deer and hogs too. I shot a sow Friday night that was about 150 pounds or so.

check out Black Hills 75gr. heavy match hp,, I think they use a Hornady bullet,,, @ 2750 fps,, they also make a 62gr tsx which should be a hard hitter on hogs @ 3100 fps.

Newbie here. Any of ya'll tried the Winchester Silvertip 50g rounds? My AR has a 1:9 twist, but they're kinda light.

What is the difference between the Hornady Vmax and Zmax (zombie ammo, whatever that is)?

I have seen the Winchesters in action, and they do seem to be a bit friendlier on the furs. I have seen two bobcats taken with them that were one hole wonders. The accuracy is comparable with Hornady.

The only difference between the V-max and Z-max is the color of the tip, Z-max has a greenish yellow tip and V-max has a red tip. Load wise, they are the same.

I do believe the Z-max will kill zombies better, tip color makes all the difference in the world when shooting the undead.
