223 bullets

with my AR's I'm limited by mag length. I have my seating die set so they'll feed reliable & have to tweak the powder charge for accuracy.

I also haven't noticed benchmark being particularly dirty in my grendels either, so that's a plus.

Nice. I just loaded up some to test in a new 223. They are no match bullet but I e generally got them to shoot around .6 with out to much fuss. And for around .14 cents each that’s plenty good. Plus they really punch a coyote good. I make sure to buy the cannelured version now. I milled some in half and the cannelure has almost a interlock effect on the bullet. Orkan has a pile that I sent him for pics and a write up.

FYI they are a little more ricochet prone.

2.230”, book length, has worked well for me.

The Hornady 55gr SP will turn a PD inside out at .22-250
velocities and liquify a deer's lungs as well. Doubt if a coyote
would have much luck surviving them at .223 speeds.

The Hornady 55 gr sp w/canalure is big medicine on feral cats around my acreage. Seems like pelt damage on them is very minimal. I would guess that they would be more fragile than a fox.

I like mid range loads of IMR 8208 in 223 and ar-15

Those old 55gr SP hornadys shoot pretty good. When I bought my AR I loaded up some 55gr SP loads with 25gr of H4895 just for break in. Darn things shot pretty good! About .750-1" and over 3200fps.

Stu,

Seeing your post and what others saying the cannelure will not affect accuracy I decided to order some. Here is where it gets interesting. When I placed my order and I got email confirming my order I noticed I selected the 55gr BT-FMJ w/cc and I really wanted to get the 55gr. SP w/c. I emailed Monmouth and asked if they could change my order...just before it shipped. When I got my package they initially had BT-FMJ on the order but it was crossed out by pen.

Looking at the bullets I "think" I got the SP bullets but they have the BT. Maybe this is why it is selling in bulk because it was mis-manufactured? To anyone that has gotten the 55gr. SP w/c does yours have the BT?

I really want the SP bullets not the FMJ. I am willing to keep these bullets if they are actually SP with BT.

So has anyone gotten the SP with BT?

Thanks.

I bought part# 2266b which is a bulk pack of 6000, I don't know if I got old stock but mine are flat based.

the specs on both have the same BC, I am very satisfied about the way they shoot and they are very effective on coyotes.

Bleeds,
As I said I think I got the SP pack but on the invoice it says FMJ-BT and it is crossed out with a pen (only the FMJ-BT). I suspect they did put the right pack in the box. And the box on Monmouth website is not what I got my order it. Mine came in a USPS small flat rate box.

Anyhow I was going to use these bullets for vermin shooting and target shooting. Hard to go wrong with this price.

I suspect I got the SP but this begs the question. How can anyone tell the difference if both SP and FMJ are boatails. I have never section a bullet nor do I have a vice but suspect I can take a plier and check. From what I think...FMJ will not have the lead in them right? Reason why I do not want to get the FMJ is because of potential of ricochet.

And you are right...bot have the same BC so it does not matter. From Stu's post of his bullets he got...it appear to be boatails but really have to look hard at one bullet lol.

they also came in a sealed clear bag. there is nothing to ID the manufacturer or bullet. presumably they are in fact hornady

midsouth usually has the best deal on components but i always look around.

right now bullets.com is going under & clearing out inventory. .224 bullet choices are very limited but you might find a deal on something you want. I just saved $6 / box on 2 different sierra .264 bullets for my grendel, compared to midsouth's price on the same ones. and midsouth is the cheapest place i've found them, other than this closeout.

there are some really good prices on powders as well. primers, yes, but a very limited selection on those. nothing i need or use.

it will be obvious, the soft points will have grey exposed lead at the tip.
