Looking for recommendations on a good affordable varmint load for a .223 Remington Model 7 CDL I just picked up. I am new to varmint hunting and I do not reload yet. Thanks for the advise

I always had good luck with usaammo.com in the before (reloading) time

They have a bunch of different stuff, accurate, clean, really affordable.

If you can find some of the Federal 50gr HPs that they offered through Walmart, and probably others, I've found that it is probably the most accurate inexpensive factory rounds out there...They used to come in 200 round bulk packs..

I bought a bunch of it before I started reloading the .223 for use in action competitions...Very reliable and accurate..It used to sell for $53 per 200 rounds...Last I heard it had climbed a little..

These soft points are affordable, reliable and accurate.

Yeah, those Varmint Express loads with the V-Max are incredible in my D-Tech.

I can second the Black Hills and Ultramax and would add Hornady Superformance and good ole Remington 55gr SP in the green and yellow box.

I have used everything listed thus far except ultramax.

I took the crony out the last two days and clocked the factory Hornday 55gr V-max at 2965fps and USA Ammo 55 gr V-Max at 2984fps out of my SD .223 18" barrel.

The Hornady fps was more consistent and my groups were 1/2" at 100yds
Where with the USA Ammo was holding between 3/4-1/2" groups.
The USA Ammo comes in loose bulk packs of 50, 250, 500, and 1000 (i think) and averages about .50-.60 each.

I was clocking the 62gr PSP from USA Ammo at 2870 fps out of my son's Savage Edge/Axis 22" barrel with consistent 1/2" groups and 3080 fps with the 55 gr V-Max (USA Ammo) with 3/4" groups.

Forgot to mention;

USA Ammo doesn' t always have the 55 gr v-max or 60 gr v-max so when they have them, buy them or it could be a while before they produce them (if).

Also when I ordered the 62 gr SPS they sent me 62gr FMJ and when I got in touch with them, they let me keep the FMJ and sent me the SPS at no extra charge.......so they are GTG as far as being standup with me.

Thanks for all the advice, I am going to get some ammo ordered tonight and sighting in the new rifle asap. I am sure I will be looking for more advice as I start coyote calling with the Foxpro spitfire I picked up. I am as novice as can be with predator and varmint hunting but looking forward to getting started. Thanks again for all the advice.

Has anyone used BVAC ammo, it seems real cheap with high reviews on cheaper than dirt.com and they are using the V-Max 55 grain. It is remanufactured like the Ultramax
