.223 grouping problem

Outside of finding the right load in your rifle, consider shooting your barrel 50 times or more before cleaning it. If you have any lube or teflon or kroil in your barrel it can take several shots to settle down.

Shooting technique on the bench will play a huge part in group size as well. Let the gun ride smoothly through the bags the same way every time as you pull the trigger toward your shoulder. Shooting technique does take practice and can't really be critiqued here. Not that I'm a pro.

Your groups don't look too bad so far. I have seen many dime size groups with flat base 52 or 53 grain Sierra and Berger at 100 yards. Consider the flat base for 100 yard target work. 20.5 grain IMR 4198 worked great for me with the 52 grain and CCI ignition, but definitely a 2900 fps load. 25 grains of Varget works great for a buddy. We like to seat the bullet out far in his savage and use the Lee Collet die, works every time and keeps you case fire-formed to your chamber.
