I just recently bought a savage 10 fp and I want to start reloading. I dont have a lot of extra cash so I'm asking on some advice. What do you guys recommened or has been working for you with this gun. I use hodgdon H380 powder for my 22-250 but not sure if there is something better out there. Never reloaded .223. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. What grain has been working for you.

If you went with Varget and a 55 gr. V-Max you would have a pretty good chance to find an accurate load, in my opinion.

It kind of depends on what you're going to use it for.
Coyotes?

My favorite powders for 223 are Benchmark and VV N-133 . I don't shoot heavy bullets though , mostly 40 and 50 grain .

I like Benchmark for the smaller stuff and Varget for the 65gr and up stuff.

H335, BLC2, and W748 are good ball powders that work with most any weight but they are more temp sensitive. I have 'summer loads' that the powder weights are reduced by 0.5gr.

26 gr H-335 with speer 1035 52 gr. hollow point ill bet you like it and even more so for little fur damage and a for sure put down . every 223 i have had likes this load .

Varget. Its clean burning and a very stable powder but in the .223 it will not give optimum velocities until your bullet weight is above 60gr. So with heavier bullets its great but with the lighter bullets it can be very accurate but you will not get top velocities which may or may not matter to you.

Ive been using W748 behind a 40/50 & 52g bullet for 18 yrs in my .223s. With over 30k rounds shot with it and almost as many varmints dropped with that load. I have not shot anything over a the 52g until 3 months ago when I started to load a 55g with the same powder, works excellent with the 55g as well.

I also use 748. Another thing to consider is that 748 meters well from a powder measures. If you use a progressive press like a Dillon this is something to think about.
