223 vs 243

I have had several .243,s over the last 20+ years and it is as flat shooting as they get. But gr of bullet and your zero is what makes it happen.I shoot deer with 100gr rem PSP and coyote with 58gr win. 58gr at 1" high at 100yrds that's about 5" low at 300. The 100gr 2" high at 100yrds I believed its 7" low at 300 u can find a ballistic chart by googling those are my ruff figures I use

I don't have any info on .223 just a few facts on the 243 but the 243 will have less wind drift at 300 that's the big prob past 200 on both and it has more energy left if u do hit the mark

All you can do is compare bullet BC and velocity to see what the numbers show out yonder. The 243 will invariably have more energy but a low BC 243 will loose out at the longer distances in wind drift.

A long day on the trigger is easier with a 223 but if you need the horsepower the 243 is the ticket.

to shoot a 69 or 77 grain bullet you will have to get a fast twist barrel. A standard .223 barrel would not shoot that heavy of a bullet worth a darn. If you are looking to shoot longer distances the .223 is not the route to go if you wanna stretch past 500. If you are looking for long range on yotes, but not too big i would look at a .260.

I don't know it for sure but I will check on that wind drift tomorrow but I am on the side of a bigger dia. with more speed drifting less but here in pa 300yrds is long range shooting most shooting of coyote's is up close and more deer drop under 150yrds unless u hunt for a spot with a long shoot In mind 30-06 is gun of choice for the popular minded people my Cuz shoots a 300 rum he get deer at 800yrds and he turns his scope up 70 clicks and can make it happen but its easyer to shoot them on the same property u hunt them on and hold dead on

Even now that .224 cal is legal to shoot deer with in Kansas. If I was picking one and praire dogs weren't on my list of things to shoot with it, it would be .243 win.

Inside 250 yards there is no need for a ballistics programs or concern of the BC of a bullet.

Now after 300 yards... BIG factor.

There, I fixed it for you.

If u find the ammo u want buy all can and don't wait till u out to get more in this day of empty shelfs laughter and funny looks about a brand, gr, or caliber buy 5 boxes and go back the next day for 5 more then when u down to your last 5 boxes repeat the cycle and when all else falls shop on line but don't wait till the day before the hunt to find u only got 1 mag left last deer season it was old mother Hubert's empty cuberts on all ammo in my area

Wind drift, and down range energy.

I am not sure what help u need with my post there or on wind drift ,and a .223 maybe a round for some people its not for me I will tote the flag for .243 all day and give advise on how to keep a stock of rounds but its not apples to oranges as some would say the m16 was chambered in 223 to cause a massive flesh wound as NATO would want to not kill everyone that got a taste of it but to take them out of the fight and keep 2 people taking care of them the 243 is one of the better wildcat rounds that came from a .308 necked down to .24 cal to give more flatter shot less wind drift and be more efficient killer round but u don't hear 243 and wildcat in the same sentence but in 1954 it was all that was said

These . . . . and maybe a few more of these , , , are your friend, and I agree there is no comparison. The .243 is head and shoulders above the .223.
