does anybody have any experience with this bullet? i bought some and found a load for my RRA 18" varmint that shoots itty bitty groups.

i use the gun for a calling rifle mainly, but we have pigs in my hunting areas big time and pigs are shot on sight. i know that a head/neck shot will kill them easily, but i am just wondering about the toughness of this bullet.

so i guess what i am asking is do any of you have experience with say deer or hogs (larger game than coyotes) to evaluate performance.

thanks in advance,
jason

It is designed to be a bullet with a tougher construction. Being a 65gr. .224" bullet I still say it would be marginal at best on deer size game. I have shot them, and they tend to be as accurate as any other Sierra hunting bullet. Ok, you .224" fans can let me have it now.

I have shot many coyotes with them and they do the job better than the majority of the bullets I've tried. They are the only bullets that I am using in all four of my 223's at this time. Have never had a runner when shooting them.
Can't say how they would work on deer size game but they are a tough accurate bullet.

That is great to hear, Randy!
They shoot awesome in my 20" 8 twist also. I recently read an account of a Tx deer taken with the 65gr Gamekings on another site. The hunter was quite pleased with the results and had photos to back it up...

I'm hoping to put one through a mountain lion in two weeks at the Globe hunt! At the very least they should ventilate a couple coyotes...

How fast are you pushing them out of your 18"?

knock'emdown

if your talking to me i'm not sure as i do not have a chrony. there is 24 grains of H4895 behind it if that helps any. i'm guessing it's in the 2900-2950 fps range based on data i have read. it's not a max load. as i went up to and over 25 grains, but it was the most accurate out of my gun. but i'm not a real speed freak anyway. i will give up 100 fps if i can put 5 shots under a dime.

My nephew began shooting deer with them in a 22-250 when he was 8 or 9 years old. I loaded them and he never let one get away. They are a tough bullet. Not as tough as a partition but will get the job done. He put the bullet into the ribs and got regular exits.

Now before I get flamed for letting a 8-9 year kid shoot at deer with a marginal cartridge and bullet, let me tell you a little about him.

This kid is an exceptional shot and I trusted him with the task at hand. His dad was with him and coached him through the shots. As soon as he could handle more recoil we stepped him up to larger calibers. When he was ten years old he was shooting NRA highpower matches with us. The Range masters would let him shoot from prone off a bipod till he he was old enough to hold the rifles up for the 200 and 300 yard legs. I saw him shoot his spotter round at 600 yards when he was ten. When the target came up he was about a foot low, I checked his clicks and log book and told him he must have pulled the shot, the gun was set right. He fired his second spotter and shot the Disc off the target, turned to me and said, "now will you set my sights Uncle Randy" He had just fired his first two shots through the same hole with an AR 15 Military peep sights at 600 yards.

To answer the question, Yes the 65 grain sierra Gameking will be up to the task for mountain lions. Look me up in Globe.

Oh man I have a RRAs Coyote upper I installed on my Colt Lower. I loaded the max charge listed in the most recent Sierra manual. 25.3 grs of "TAC" This saturday I'll chronny them but those bullets are "Bad to the Bone" Man 5 shot 1/2MOA groups multiple times even with a hot BBL. I love those bullets. And RRAs products. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

They seem to be a tough bullet and you will need a 10 twist or faster. I used them in my WSSM wildcat at 3700 fps. They would leave 25 size exit holes. Don't doubt they will take deer.

Will a 1-12 twist work with these bullets or will i need a faster twist?

I've been shooting the Sierra 65gr SBT's out of my Savage 12FV in 22-250 for about a year now... Best performing bullet on coyotes that I've seen, hands down. IMHO, it is THE coyote bullet in the 22-250.

My barrel is a 12 twist, and it was stabilizing the bullets out to 300 yards at velocities as low as 2900fps during load work-up.

If I remember correctly, it is about .020" longer than the Sierra 55gr BlitzKing, so if your rifle likes the 55BK, chances are it will like the 65SBT provided you can push it fast enough, ie. 2900fps. My start loads didn't go any slower than that, so I dont' have any experience with this bullet at speeds lower than 2900fps out of a 12 twist.

Anybody else using this bullet?

Think it would stabilize in a 22", 12 twist, 22-250?

I'm looking for a heavier bullet to buck the wind...

They worked very well in my 1/8 twist RRA. I have yet to try them in my 1/12 Remy varminter. Only shot a few big jackrabbits and used up the rest doing load development. On paper, they did some .500 groups with Benchmark and Varget according to my notes. I'm not into the .223 for bigger game like antelope and deer.

I use this bullet in my ATH, WITH 26GR Varget and when really on MY game it has done less than 1/2MOA I usually average around .6. Have taken two deer with it, one shoulder shot that went less than 30yds and one neck shot that was DRT. Both were pass throughs. My 30.06 doesnt kill any quicker. BTW, I exclusively use Game King in that to.

Shake the dust from this thread..lol, probably belongs in the reload forums,(?)

I tried some through my newly assembled upper with RRA 20" 1/8 twist.
Only tried Varget so far, and best results were less than acceptable, 5rnds 1.25" at 25.8g

I plan to swap out a scope from another rifle that shoots no better than 1.25" groups regardless of load/bullet/powder, (short pencil barreled AR) before trying any more.

I'm going to try to work something up with the 65 sgk in my rra 8 twist, and in my 10 twist 22-250. Doubt I'll actually try deer with it, but I think it'd be worth a try for pigs in the AR.
