22LR ammo

Has any one noticed the quailty of 22lr ammo going down the crapper? I quit shooting the remington golden bullets long ago because of just that light loads and all kinds of malfunctions. Well i went to winchester wildcats and have been very pleased with the way they shot until today. I spent all afternoon shooting the 10/22 and now with the wild cats i was getting about an avrage of three to 4 per 50 light loads that were real light. Sounded like a cb going off. they were at least 1.5 to 2 inch low on the light loads at 55yrds vs the rest of them. Is it the supply and demand and the quailty checks are being skipped? not sure whats going on but seems like it could be dangeours as light as quit a few of them were. Thats why i got rid of the rems i had a friend get a light one and it didnt make it out of the barrel and he pust another right behind it in a bar-22. Didnt hirt anything but im sure it wasnt good on it neither.

I've never had a light load or a misfire with CCI Minimags, and I've shot a LOT of them. I've had pretty decent luck with Federal bulk, too.

have you tried cci 40gr. subsonics? they shoot great in every rifle i tried them in. never had a misfire and quiet too.

Remington Golden Bullets suck. They are dirty and don't shoot good in the guns I've tried them in. I have also had several FTFs.

Federal Bulk hads been my favorite bulk load. Clean, very few misfires, and fairly accurate.

SK Standard Plus is the best I've tried and I've tried a lot, except for the high dollar stuff.

Best for the price, and identical to Wolf MT.
The SK HVHP stuff about the best hunting ammo available since the Eley fell by the wayside.

It is somewhat amazing the variations that you will see between different brands of 22LR ammo, and the variations show up the fastest when shooting a semi-auto. Not only are there dozens of diffent brands and types of ammo but there's supposedly something like 20+ different chambers that a manufactures might use.

Hate to say it but in general you get what you pay for. Cheap bulk--Cheap results

I zero my rifles in with CCI MiniMags, and just expect to have to adjust POA if I decide to take another brand to the range for practice. I only hunt with the CCI MiniMags. You need not use CCI but I recommend choosing a good brand as your base/hunting load and sticking to it.

+1
I've never been able to get any of the bulk ammo to shoot well. But, Wolf Match Target is another story. It shoots well, and I sort it by weight and rim thickness so that it is VERY close to the high end Lapua in terms of accuracy. I'm into 22 Rimfire Benchrest Shooting, so finding the ammo that shoots well in one of the bench rifles is number 1 priority. Wolf Match Target ammo shoots accurately in more of my rifles than any other single ammo. And, it is the same ammo as SK Std Plus as you say.
