.22lr Revolvers

NcW, I do love my Smiths. I also believe they are the most accurate .22LR revolvers I have shot. However, as far as .22LR pistols go I have also had great luck with the Ruger Auto.

Yes. And let me point out the error in your ways. First of all the 22LR in the Colt Single Action Revolver was not called, nor nick named the Peace Maker. It was called the new Frontier. I own and have owned several, and yes they are a good looking revolver, and they handle very well. However they were never known for their accuracySo I guess that does make you wrong-again. Tom.

That's funny, Tom. Mine says "Peacemaker .22" right on the barrel and outshoots ANY .22 revolver I have ever seen to date. Looks better too. Show me a pic of one of those pretty Smiths and we'll let the members judge. Sooner or later you will learn that I have forgotten more about guns than you will ever know. Then we'll get along fine........

Apparently I own a gun that does not exist. Well, at least not in Tom's world. But I'm sure he'll be able to learn me up on it in a minute.........

First of all I have no desire to get along with you.

And there is nothing funny about the Colt "New Frontier" model. Not the Colt "Peace Maker" model. You may have one stamped "Peace Maker", but that is not what they were called. You have a funny way of spinning-are you related to Obama?? He also thinks he knows everything-like you. However I do believe you when you say you have forgotten a lot. I have a Winchester that is stamped John Wayne-so does that make the 94's a John Wayne?? No it does not. It makes it a Winchester commerative model 94. Just like your revolver is a Peace Maker stamped "New Frontier".

I will admit when I am wrong. And I can honestly say that I never saw one marked Peace Maker. If you have one then I stand corrected about the stampings. Now do you see how easy it is to admit when you make a mistake?? You should try it some time!!

If you happen to have one that is accurate. Then I say good for you. However they were not known for accuracy. However I will agree that they are great looking revolvers. However if you line up five of them against 5 S&W's you will lose your money when it comes to accuracy.

And how do you know how accurate it is. You said so yourself that you do not shoot it?? Or did you make that up too?? Tom.

The New Frontier and the Peacemaker .22 are 2 totally different models. Nothing wrong with the stampings. Can you comprehend that fact?

I said I don't shoot it anymore, not that I've never shot it. I have owned a New Frontier and 2 Single Sixes, this gun puts both to shame in both looks and accuracy.........

The Colt Peacemaker and the Colt New Frontier in 22 LR replaced the older Colt Frontier Scout. The Peacemaker has fixed sights and the new Frontier has adjustable sights.

I have bought/owned three of the Peacemakers since they look like a miniature Colt Model 73 single action, and none of them shot to point of aim. Past tense on owned...

Nothing beats a 4" Colt Diamondback in 22 LR, IMO. But I also like my Smiths: a model 63 4" stainless Kit Gun and a 6" Model 17. I also have a couple of Ruger Single Sixes and a stainless Taurus 6" that all shoot where I want them to with adjustable sights.

Beauty is in the eye of the owner....

I got rid of 2 Single Sixes after buying the Colt. I will admit that typically it is not the best set up for accuracy, but mine shoots really well. I think it is a pretty classy little gun. Fit and finish are excellent.

That said, I was going to comment on the Diamondback before I got sidetracked and was told that there is "S&W and then everything else".

Adjustable sights are a good thing, but if you can find a fixed sight revolver that shoots where it is supposed to then you have found a gem IMO. Most don't, I know. My Single Six in 32 mag does pretty good....

My 6 1/2" Single Six in 32 Mag has adjustable sights and shoots very well.

So do both of my adjustable sight 22LR/22Mag Single Sixes - one has a 4 5/8" barrel (blued gun) and the other has a 6 1/2" barrel (stainless gun).

No complaints here about Smith DA or Ruger SA revolvers in any caliber. Again, IMO.

I had a SS single six 6.5". Shot pretty well but was SO much heavier than the Peacemaker.

My Single-six 32 mag has fixed sights, ivory grip, cch, and 4 5/8" barrel. Pretty cool little gun. I can easily get 1100fps out of a 100gr bullet. Always liked the 32 mag......

My best and favorite is a S&W M17 K22 6", a real beauty. You know, back when S&W's were blue!

However as Old Coach posted, that Freedom Arms sure is pretty and interests me. If not in a 22LR, for sure in a 357M.

This is a great opportunity to get a heirloom that can be passed down. Of course, it must be something of quality and reputation that will demonstrate your preference for fine firearms. Then consider being on the receiving end and having a fine S&W passed to you or something that a pawn shop wouldn't even want!

I don't know if the budget will afford a Smith. As much as I think they are great revolvers, I just don't know if I'll be spending $700-$800 on a .22 pistol. I'm not saying they are not worth it and I'm sure you guys that have them love yours.

I may end up with one of those junky, throw away Rugers.

Then again, maybe I'll get lucky at the gun show and run across someone with a nice Smith at a nice price. Right, it would be the first time in my life.

Nothing wrong with the Ruger's. They've always had a reputation as real work-horses.

I do however agree with ya on the Smith's. IMO this little (1947) K22 is just about the perfect woods gun,,

although I wouldn't mind packing that little Colt of TrippleDeuces either...

Good luck with whatever ya deceide on..

Amen to that...

A Ruger will last a life time and do anything that 99% of shooters would want it to do. And all at a reasonable price if that is an issue for a shooter.
