243, 75g vmax info

Anyone out there having good luck with the 75g vmax from the 243? I"ve went through a box with H4350 and IMR4895 and cant seem to get much better then 1.25"-1.5" at 100 yards for 5 shots off a bench. Have tried quite a few different OALs and 2 primers. Might just have to try the 70g NBT...
 
I've had awesome luck with these in my .243win. They kill yoties like a cement truck!! Here's my recipe for coyote mayhem: 46.4 of H414, WLR primer, Lapua brass, and the bullets are seated into the lands. WARNING start lower and work up as these are hot loads. I am getting 3560 fps in my .243 win. These will shoot flatter to 600 yards than the 70 NBT as they have a better BC. OH and did I mention these are accurate!!!
 
I was getting good accuracy from the factory load, but have since switched to the Hornady 75g HP. I'm running them over 39.9 of IMR4064 and getting the same accuracy as I was from the v-max. Might try some 4064 if you have that around the bench...
 
One load that 2 of my .243 did well with was: 40.5 gr imr4895, 75 vmax, cci mag primer, winchester brass, 2.633" oal.
When I tried different brass (Nosler and Lapua) with same load the groups were not as good. I had to adjust the loads down to 39.8 gr of imr4895 to get same group size.
I'm currently working on loads with the 70 sierra blitzkings. Just trying to have a shoot off(group size, vertical stringing) at 600 yards against the 75 vmax.
So far, I think the sierra bullets are grouping easier if that makes any sense. I believe the sierra's have a tangent ogive which supposedly makes them less picky about bullet jump instead of hornady's secant ogive bullets.
All in all [beeep], either bullet does great on coyotes.
 
I run 40 grains of IMR4064 with a 75 grain Vmax @ 2.640 in my Mossberg 100 ATR. This is one of the best but I have seen it shoot several 1/4-1/2 MOA groups.

My Remington 700 in .243 likes Varget as opposed to IMR4064. Same dose but a different COAL.
 
My Browning 243 really liked Varget and the 75gr Vmax.

I just sold the Browning and purchased a T-C Icon in 243, but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.
 
Rifle is a Ruger M77 MKII Target/Varmint, 26" heavy stainless barrel, brown laminated stock, 2 stage trigger. Leupold vari x III 6.5-20x40 w/target dot and elevation knob.

I acquired the rifle from a friend who put a few boxes of factory loads through it and decided he wanted a 22-250 instead.

I brought it home, scrubbed it, put the leupold on top, and started with the 75g vmax as its primary use will be a yote rifle. Again, local store carries 55g nbt, and 58/65/75g vmax, NO 70g nbt...have to drive 30 miles or order them.

Had few powders on shelf that could definately work, IMR4895, H4350, AA3100, H4831sc, few primers like the WLR, Fed 210, and CCI 200.

I ended up trying IMR4895 and H4350 and only got 1, (5) shot group under 1" and I forgot to write down which primer I loaded. It was either the CCI 200 or Fed210...I was testing with WLRs and its just not consistent. It'll do 3 in and 2 out almost every charge and OAL tried with both powders...Except that 1 time where I threw the Fed210 or CCI200 in there, it cut group in half almost.

I ended up buying some Varget and IMR4350, per recomendation to the nosler book. First time playing with varget, I'm hoping with either of these 2 powders and the 70g nbt, I should get at least 3/4 MOA for 5 shots and be close to 3700fps with the 26".

I have 12 of the 75g vmax bullets left, I think I'll throw 2 loads together with varget at the upper end since thats where it seems to shoot better and see if it shows any promise anyways. I'd like to see the 75g vmax shoot over the 70g nbt for simple fact I can get them locally, they are $6 cheaper per 100, and I love red and hate purple.

Dont always get to pick what you want to shoot through a rifle though hahaha.
 
I know the rifle is capable of 1/2 MOA 5 shot groups at 100 yards from a bench.

After the 75g vmax go around, I went and bought a box of 55g nbts to see if it was the rifle or what.

Loaded few loads with IMR4895 in .5g increments, win case, WLR primer, few different OALs and I was rewarded with 5 shot group you could cover with a nickel dang near at 100 yards. 44.5g IMR4895 at 2.620" proved to be the winner with limited testing. Cronographs right at 4000fps.

So with that in mind, I made the 60 mile round trip to purchase some 70g nbts in hopes I can achieve my goal of 3600-3700fps with 1/2-3/4 consistent MOA from a 70-75g plastic tip bullet.

Will be shooting the 70g NBTs over IMR4350/Varget in next week or two.

Sometimes that's just the way it is. Usually they shoot well, but sometimes.... Not. If you get stumped, try Sierra's 80gr SBT Blitz. This bullet just plain shoots well. B.C is lower at .310, I think, but shoots like a .375 B.C.

kyote killer---you are shooting the exact same rifle as I am complete with the Leupold scope. Look at my post above----for my load info. I have a buddy who has the exact gun also and I load for him the exact load as mine and it's dead accurate for both guns. H414 just seems to be right for this combo.
 
I like the max of H4895 behind my 75 vmax. Grouped under 3" at 400. My stupid barrel needs a warm up shot, though.
 
I have a Ruger MK2 Model 77 243 and my loads right now are 42.1 grains of IMR 4350 and a sierra matchking boattail 95 grain..small in small out.Just like I like it
 
I have been running 46.6 gr of H4350 2.65" OAL CCI mag primers with 75 vmax out of rem vtr with 22 inch tube. Excellent accuracy and hammer on coyotes got 2 last weekend that went down like they had a mack truck dropped on them. Shot a 5 round group that was right at an inch at 275 yards from a bench so I quit with load development. This load is .1 under max according to hornady load manual so work up to it safely with your rifle. Here is a pic from last weekend with this combo

I made my first attempt ever on the 75 V-MAX's for my 243 Win just earlier this year using Reloader 15. I got it safely up to about 3,425-3,450 fps... using 42.3 grains and a Fed210 primer. I went higher, but it just fell apart and then I started getting pressure signs besides. Played with my lengths a bit - ended up at 2.655", killed some stuff with them, but then I decided to move on. I'm always looking for those loads that can come together for me with best accuracy and velocity for flattest possible shooting and at the max range. I might come back to these eventually, but will probably try IMR-4350 powder next, or RL19 which I've had great luck with in the 243 (accuracy-wise) with both 70's and larger bullets like the 95NBT.

I really wanted the 75's to work out, and maybe they still will. They have a great BC and boat tail bullets are just plain nicer to work with. Also, if you drive these things to 3400+ versus lower weight 55's or 58's at much higher speeds, well... they looked real good to me on paper at least.
