I just checked out the Hodgdon website to see what they recommended for a .243 load using an 85 grain bullet and IMR4350 powder. Their min load was 43 grains and their max load was 47 grains (C). Has anybody ever loaded that much IMR4350 (47 grains) behind an 85 grain bullet ? Seems like a lot of powder to me ? Ben

I load 44 gr. of IMR4350 with 85 grain Nosler Partitions in a Remington 700LH and its a pretty hot load. I don't remember what the nosler book has listed as max but I do remember that 44 gr. is over Max in the Sierra book for 85 grain bullets.

Books are all over the map. Your rifle will tell you what is max.

We shoot the 70g Nosler at 3600 fps with a load of 47g of H or IMR 4350 and a Win primer. It is pretty close to being on the ragged edge of a safe max load.

I shoot 45.5g of R#19 with a Win primer with the 85's if that is any help, super accuracy and speed.

Ben yeah it is way too much for an uncoated bullet. that bullet must have the blue coating from barnes. 44.5 is plenty. unless you have the blue caoting or moly.
