243 Ackley Improved HELP

Dies on the way. Shipped rifle to gunsmith today. Please give me feedback on fire forming brass and load data. I plan on shooting 87 grain Berger bullets . 1 in 9 1/8 twist barrel.

I fire form with 47.0g of win 760 and a 70g what ever, tiny groups, fully formed brass, cci 250 primer, Rem 7/08 brass, neck turned then necked down.

I fireform with factory 243 ammo, since I have 200 PPU factory rounds with 90gr softpoints I can hunt or just shoot and have perfectly formed brass. I have not started working up a load yet, still fire forming.

If your gonna go improved why not use a 105 gr bullet

I used 38 gr varget to form, then 41 after using 87gr bergers.

87 thats the same load Im shooting in mine, just flattens the yotes in the wind.

I neglected to say that I fire form while hunting small creachers. No use in wasting powder and bullets!

I work up a FF load using 6mm REM data just like you would with any other gun. I use the best FF load for hunting. My FF load shot so well I had a hard time duplicating the accuracy once the brass was formed!

Look in whatever reloading data you use for whatever bullet. Start at their max .243 load for whichever powder and work up from there til you find the best accuracy. My .243AI fireform load was with a 70TNT bullet. The Speer manual shows 44.0 gr max with that bullet. The fireform load came out at 48 to 48+ gr. W760, accuracy was all holes touching or close. Load with formed brass is about the same, accuracy is about the same, and velocity is about the same. After finding the sweet load, every fireforming round was used on varmints. This is a very good 13 twist barrel, the TNT works fine at 3800+. In that cartridge a 70gr bullet balances velocity and ballistic coefficient really well.
