243 AI Loads....

Good Morning,
I am new here, but have been reloading for many years...I have some fair incite on what I need to do, but I'm in the process of building a 243 AI and looking for load information for 95 to 105 grain bullets...I have 2 other 243's with good loads for the 95's, but am building this rifle with an 8 twist for longer ranges..We are having a coyote problem on a favorite deer hunting parcel and it's very seldom we get them close enough to take out..I need something I can be sure I can anchor them at 350 to 550yds..Shots have to be quick because they don't stay in the shooting lanes long and would like to know a not so perfect hit would still more than likely take them out...I'm thinking along the lines of 1 to 1 1/2 grains above max on the 243 for the AI, but not for sure...It pretty much worked out that way for the 225AI I played with for a few months with Mike Bellm, but this is only the second AI I have played with..Any information would be greatly apperciated...Thanks in advance...Terry

Powder choices would for the bullet weight would be of most intrest..I'm going to start with RL-17, H4350 with the 95's and thinking H-4831SC and H-1000 for the 105's..Unless I get better ideal here...

R17 and the 105 amax. Start around 41 work up. I stopped around 43.5. Speed was 3325.

R22 and the 105 amax. Start around 42 work up. I settled around 44-45. Speed was 3050 but crazy accurate.

R15 and the 75 vmax. Start around 42 work up. I settled at 46. Speed was 3500+ and accurate.

All loads were with fire formed lapua brass.

Gives me something to look at..Just got new Lapua brass in a little while ago and have 50 ready to fire form with 39.7 of Rl-17, Fed 210M primers and some 95 SMK's...Looking at powder down in case makes me think I'm going to have to come up with something much slower with the AI...That load with 95 Berger Hunting Bullets in my Icon are running around 3000fps and no worse than 1/2MOA and a lot of 1/4" groups. Still waiting on Amax to hit the market again but did pick up 300 105 Bergers in the hunting VLD but still Have several 100 of the 95's. Hate the Amax has dried up because they shot pretty good out of the Savage and want some for this project...Brother bush hogged shooting lanes yesterday and had 2 coyotes come out behind him again while he was on tractor about 150 yds away.

Crazy accurate for long distance is what it's all about in my book! I'll give up a little speed for accuracy. I hit nearly 3130 with the 17 in my 243 but the accuracy wasn't there...That's why I hoped with the AI I can kick it up a notch because it was starting to come back in again when I got a snug bolt lift and quit..

Hello i have a 243Ai with a 1;8 twist. My load it loves is 43.5 gr of RL-22 it shoots 44.0 just as good. But the edge went to the 43.5 its in the .3s im shooting a 105gr berger hunting vld. excellent bullet. The 43.5 is running a touch over 3000 im running molly coated bullets. Let us know what ya come up with

For velocity Reloader 17 is hard to beat. I run a hot load @ 46grs with Berger 105 VLD's going just under 3400fps. I don't reccomend going that high with your loads as I'm using a Shilen ratchet rifled 4 groove barrel which will react differently than a standard rifled barrel.

Varget gave me the best accuracy but velocity was lacking substancially.

my 8 twist brux likes rl-22 with hornady 95gr sst shoots .4 at 200 consistant believe charge is 45 gr also if your thinking of maybe a lighter bullet mine also likes viht n140 with the 58 vmax and 65vmax shoots bugholes all day long. The 58 gr runnin about 3950 with 45.7 gr n140.

Just use max loads for the 243 win for fireforming. It will give you a good sart on load development. After fireformed you can use 6mm rem load data for load evelopment. Since the 6mm and 243 ai have the same h20 capacity. Just remember a faster load wil burn up your barrel faster and that the slower load usually is more accurate. Good luck with the 243 ai it was one of my favorites
