.243 and IMR4895 powder?

You have to remember I'm an old guy

. 20 years ago, everyone around here that had a .243 and reloaded, used IMR 4895 for the .243. It seemed to be the go to powder for the .243. Do some of the newer powder work better in the .243 or was everyone just following the leader. My Tikka seems to like H414 and about anything I put thru it. Just found some IMR 4895 so will be trying it in my .243, 6X45 and .223. Thanks, Don

My browning 243 loves 4895 with 80 and 95gr nosler ballistic tips

I do have some 95s loaded up with some viht to try. And i picked up some 90gr etips to play with too . Havnt sat down and mapped out what powders i have to run with the etips yet though. I try to stick with what the manual says and i tried to stay with powders that i can use in other guns. 308 and 223 really like 4895 too.

4895 is good stuff IMO. But it's a little fast for heavier bullets in 243. Would be better suited for light bullets in that caliber and for heavier bullets in the 223 and 6x45. BTW, how are you liking that 6x45 upper by now?

Russ, I'm liking it. Got some good groups with 2200. Got some IMR 4895 and 8208XBR coming. Also have some 335 and Benchmark loaded up. It will be my deer rifle this year. I bought a Palmetto State lower and a Timney trigger for it. Don

One powder that gives top velocity with the 85-100gr bullets in the .243 is the newer Alliant Power Pro 4000MR. There is data in the newest Hornady manual.

I'm glad you're liking it. It was definitely a good shooter for me. Now my 243 seems to have lost some accuracy, geez always a struggle isn't it?
