if ya can't pack the rifle what ya gunna do with 1/4 of a elk?
packin elk hurts A HOLE BUNCH more the the recoil.
 
We haven't had an entertaining thread for a little while.

It bothers me a bit trying to cater to a broad group that requires such a reduction in recoil to be able to hunt at the risk of losing such large game.
There are factory managed recoil cartridges in acceptable calibers.
Some hunters in this category may fail at the rest of the hunt.
 
anyone else notice the rush on red solo cups?
i noticed blue and yellow at walmart but the reds where sold out.
you'd think it was new years eve or something.

Bottom line is why would you use a .243 for elk when there are better options? Sure a .243 will kill an elk, but my .300 Ultra Mag. sure brings a lot of insurance with it.

He prolly won't be by himself. But that's no reason I should carry the 3 little nimmy's 2# heavier-than-needed guns for 'em. Might hafta carry Junior's lunch, blanky and nap-time snacks, along with Shorty's steroid treatments and Missy's social networking stuff..
 
if he is that young can he really be trusted to hit the sweet spot with his heart beating so hard your rifle bounces two feet with every beat?
what age is legal to hunt elk in Colorado? its 12 here in Wyoming.

Not a single person has said the .243 doesn't have it's place in elk hunting. We have said it's not the best choice. In the right hands or in the hands of a youngster with the right mentor with him, it will do fine. To the idiots that are out there with their short barrel .243's, slinging lead at hundreds of yards at elk, it's nothing short of a crime in my book. Your thirst for arguing is amazing as much as it is entertaining.

On the other side of the coin is, those that 'actually practice' at ranges they are apt to encounter game(and consider shooting at), with 'long time' to set up the shot and dial-ups, might just read a posts like below and really begin to wonder......

The 'people of walmart' needing their stock questions answered, might could be better served by asking their local store manager, instead of popping the 'Q' on a hunting board, I reckon.....
