Leaving tomorrow for a hog hunt and my friend is carrying his .243 partly because the baggage charges for flying with oversize and overweight baggage. We will be shooting some coyotes as well as hogs. I know it will be enough for the dogs, but what about the hogs? Just me wondering...

Won't be a problem at all if he can shoot. I have killed plenty with a .223 and my kids have killed plenty of deer with a .243

Tell him just don't shoot the hog in the shoulder. Get in on the heart/lungs and he will have a dead pig.

you bet it is enuf gun, I have seen several killed with w 243, shot placement is the key
I have killed and been whitness to many other killed pigs with a multitude of calibers. They all worked. I have killed the majority of my hogs with a 25-06 and a 223. I also have killed a few with a 204. I pretty much switched to a 223 for most of my pig hunting recently. The 243 will be fine, even with shoulder shots. The bullet and the shooter are more important than the headstamp.

Them Kalifornie pigs must be a lot more tender than the hogs we have here in the southeast. I've seen 350 pound boars shot in the shoulder plate with a 300 Win Mag that just kept going. Mature hogs especially boars have over 3 inches of hard leather like grissel on their shoulders.
