.243 to .308 what cal and why?

It really depends on what you will be hunting with it. I love my 7mm rem mag, but the mags will be quite a bit rougher on your shoulder than some of the smaller cailbers. I just read a review of the .308 and it sounds like a great, dependable round. (the review was in "Hunting Illustrated") I just picked up a .243 for coyotes up to antelope and (mule deer under 300 yds)

What about a7mm08 for deer sized game and smaller. You guys are talking about a 7mm and a 308. I don't have any experience in the 708 so was just wondering.

.243 Winchester for varmits up to White-Tailed Deer.

.308 or .30_06 for White Tail to Black Bear.

Years of experience is my reasoning.

Depends what it is going to be used for, only coytes and fox maybe a bobcat .223 22-250 if you want to add deer and antelope to the pic. I would go with the .243. It also depends on the land you are going to be hunting. How far are the average shots going to be?

I have an DPMS LR-308 w/ a 24" BB and love it....I can consistantly hold 5 inch groups at 500+ yards. I mainly hunt yotes with this gun and will eventually hunt deer when the season comes back around.

I can shoot into a cross wind with minimal drift. The ballists on this rifle are amazing. I would defiently recommend going with the .308 instead of the .243. I have many rifles and I have not found a rifle more consistant than my .308. I could take somebody that has never shot my gun before and put a 8x8 target out 400 steps and put money on it that they could hit it.......

Go with the .308.....especially if you hunt anything bigger than a yote....

.308 is plenty for elk. That is all my dad has used since he was a young boy and killed lots of elk and deer with a .308. I too have killed several deer and elk with a .308 over 300 yards it has plenty of killing power past 300 yards. Plus you can load down to 100-110 grains for yotes and long range rockchucks or prarie rats.
