244 remington

a friend of mine just inherited a remington model 722 chambered in 244 remington. my reloading book says 7 x 57 mauser necked down to take .243. designed for varmint hunting it has 1-12 twist, but many poeple started using it for hunting deer and antelope. the 1-12 twist wouldn't stabilize the 100 grain bullets though so they brought out the .243 rem. the 244 rem was discontinued and then later re-introduced as 6mm.
does anyone here know anything about this cartridge?
do the still make factory loads for it? if not what brass do i need to get to reload?
 
it is exactly a 6mm rem with a slow (1/12) twist, use 6mm brass & data and it'll do best with 70-90 grain bullets. it'll be fine for deer sized game, pick your shots and use the 85 gr partition.

thanks ridge runner, i doubt my friend will ever do any deer hunting with it. but i might be able to get him out on a few coyote hunts though. right now he's just itching to get out and shoot it.
maybe something a little lighter for coyotes? or is the 85 grain likely to be the most accurate?
he probly won't want to buy several different kinds of powder and bullets to try and find the best load either so of anyone already has a recipe or two that would likely work out good i'd appreciate it. i will be the one reloading for him cause i"m the one with the equipment.
 
I like the 87 gr spire points and hollow points by hornady, I load them with IMR 4831, shoots well in every 6mm I ever tried them in, I do not have much experience with slow twists, I do have a 12 twist 6mm PPC and it really likes the 55 gr BT's, but in a 244 case size that bullet may turn a yote inside out, it would be smokin, close to 4000 fps.

Try the 55 grain Noslers the twist is just right for these light pills and I'm getting 3950 out of a 243 with them and they will go over 4000. Really bad coyote medicine and you won't believe what they do to ground squirrels. Mine shoot well under an inch out of both my Ruger #1 and the Remington VLS.
 
I had really good luck in my 722 .244 with both the Sierra 85 grain BTHPGK and the Speer 90 grain hot core. Either of these will do the job on deer with careful shot placement, and coyotes won't know what hit them!
 
I am working 65 gr VMax, and Berger FB, loads, right now,
for my 6mm Remington. These bullets would make good
coyote ammo, and they are very accurate bullets, in my
VV N160 loads.

224 remington is exactly what was stated above the early name for 6mm Remington. The 244 Rem has a slow twist as staed above.

I would suggest either 55 gr Nolser BT with Varget or 75 gr bullets.

for deer the 90 gr Nosler BT may be your ticket.
