i have 50 new peieces of 25-06 brass and 20 once fired 25-06 brass. i just got my barrel rechambered to the 25-06 AI. can i run the regular brass and once fired brass through my AI dies or do i have to load all 70 rounds up as a regualr 25-06 loads then blow the case out then resize it to a AI. I was trying to go about this the easiest way getting to load for the AI asap and not shoot the regualr 25-06 loads in the bbl. I hope this makes sense to someone who can give me a straight forward answer. Like I said I just got my AI barrel back and nothing has been fired through it yet..... only fired through the old regular 25-06. thanks

You need to fire form first usually my fire forming loads shoot as good as the improved loads. Im thinking of doing the same thing to my Savage 25-06.

Take out the expander ball, run your cases up into your AI die and blow real hard through the top hole. Voila! formed brass! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Seriously, did you do any research at all on Ackley cartridges before you had your rifle rechambered?

Run the cases thru the standard 25-06 die and shoot them in the AI chamber. The AI chamber is shorter than the standard and was designed to be used with standard 25-06 brass to fireform in the AI chamber.

You should have a shorter chamber, its called a crush fit chamber on the ackley jobs. As Dan said use your 25-06 die first.

Then load your brass with a full strength standard 25-06 Rem. load. Seat bullets alittle long and hard seat them as you chamber your round.

I have seen case head seperation while fireforming, when my friend was fireforming old used brass in his new .223 Ackley. I like to use new brass on my 25-06 ackley.

With any luck your shell should come out looking like this,

Good luck and I know you will like it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

bama, how much did it ost to have the 25-06 rechambered? I am interested in doing this to my 25-06

I sent it back to Van Horn who made my custom TC bbl the barrel was ove $400 and getting it rechambered and set exactly for my TC frame was $120 with shipping included in that.

seriously. yes I looked into this for months I just not afraid of asking questions. I feel like the idiot is the person who doesnt ask questions. I have been loading for years so Im not new to any of this except the AI. With 18 posts you might should watch they way you say things.

Let us know how they shoot for you.....My experience with FF loads, is that they can be every bit as accurate as loads in the formed hulls.

Just a question on this.

Why can't BHLAMA just run his brass part way into his AI sizing die and just use it as a neck die? Try them in the chamber and if they won't chamber adjust the die down until he bumps the shoulder back enough to have have the bolt just close.

Years? Your powers of reason have failed you then...

I went the cream of wheat/pistol powder route when FF for my 25-06AI. Using new untouched WW brass.

If (more likely when) I do another Ackley, I'll probably just shoot some plinking loads to FF...........

I'd like a 7 twist 223AI one day........ soon.
