25-06 and IMR 4064?

What ever you do, use the Win brass. The Fed and Rem will have the primers fall out at pressures that the 25/06 really loves with extreme accuracy.

I use an over max load (by the book) of R#19 with the 100g Speer BT & 100g partitions with the Win primer, bullet 0.040 off the lands; accuracy is really amazing at 3450 fps out of my Stainless 700 sporter.

I have not used any R#22 in the 25/06...can't help you there.

In a friend's custom 25/06 with a 26" Shilen barrel 1-12 twist, the gunsmith told him to try 63.0g of R#25 with a fed 215 with the 100g sierra's and 58.0g with the 117g sierra flat base. I worked up the loads for him in his rifle with the 100's, I had groups in the 1/3" and less at 3650 fps, and with the 117's the groups were in the .400's at 3350 fps. There was no high pressure at all in the 100g loads, in fact I neck sized the brass 4 times during the load development. I started with fresh new Win brass on the load with the 117's and would consider 58.0g a Max load for that rifle because the brass needed full length sizing after each firing. These speeds are the same as a factory 257 Weatherby with factory ammo. If you try these loads in your rifle, back off 5.0g and work up to these loads due to the fact that this was a custom rifle, and different lot# of powder that you would be using.

R#19 has worked so well in my 700 Stainless, that I have not tried the R#25 in it. The Speer 100g BT are hands down the most accurate bullet in my rifle, and they kill deer DRT!

I gave RL-19 a try in my 25-06IMP because it had worked so well for Mr. Ackleyman and its his recommendation for the 25-06. I am happy to say it has been a pretty impressive powder. I have shot some loads well over 3500fps 100's, I didn't cronograph them. I did crono some loads around 3450fps and found my best accuracy there with the 100's.

3 weeks ago I worked up some coyote loads with 95 Bergers and 58.5 RL-19 Fed 210M Norma 270 brass. They were grouping .3" to just under .5" five shot groups in my 25/06 ackley. Too bad they don't make that bullet anymore.

Anyways I have some more experimenting to do with this powder. Would like to try RL-17 in the 25/06, just out of curiosity though.

I have an old Remington ADL Deluxe in 25-06 that loves 43.5 grains of IMR-4064 behind a Sierra 120gr Game king. I got the data out of an old Speer Reloading manual and I have been using that load for 35 years...it may not break any speed records but its accurate as hell in my gun.

I have been shooting 100 grain Speer spire points with 4350 and Win brass. Shot excellent in my REM 700 CDL on pronghorn, deer and hogs. Also got a coyote triple with it on my Wyoming pronghorn hunt a few years ago after had tagged out on pronghorn.

Before 4350 and 4831 IMR 4064 was commonly used in the .25-06, but it left a lot to be desired. It peaked at a much lower velocity leaving the .25-06 very anemic. It took the surplus slow burning powders that came after WW 2 to make the .25-06 shine.

The Lyman reloading manual shows 4064 all the way through120gr, not the fastest but the data is there.
