25-06 for varmints

Is anyone shooting a 25-06 for varmints (ground hogs in particular)? I shoot a Savage BVSS in 25 and am interesting in reloading for it. I am interested in any loads that are effective and any for the 75gr VMax, 70gr Blitzkings, or 87gr TNT HP's.

Check out the hodgden website.....

I am shooting an unreal accurate load out of my rem 700 as follows:

Win brass
Win primer
56.0g of IMR 4350
87g Speer @3600 fps
0.040 bullet jump
I bump the shoulder back .002 on every firing with a Bonanza neck sizer.

I do believe I could hit blue jays at 300 yards with this load.

Due to variances in powder lot # and individual barrels, work up to the load listed if you try it. Please Don't drink beer while you reload, don't reload after you and the wife have had a fight(that is when I have the tendancy to go way over book max in my test loads), don't smoke directly over the powder pan, and don't spit in the primer tray.

My 25/06 doesn't like the 75 Vmax. It does, however, like the 87 gr. Speer TNT's. I am still messing with it. So, I don't have any load data to share. But, it will be different with your rifle.

Speer 87gr TNT w/56gr R19

Absolutely brutal on everything it touches.......makes a sickening wet "ka_wack" when you hit something

My Sav VLP in .25-06 ('bout the same as yours, just a
different stock - Model 112) doesn't really care that much
for 75gr V-Max. It actually does better with the Horn 75gr HP's.
Both will usually group MOA, but...... The load it can do
1/4" groups is Rem fire-formed brass, Rem 9 1/2 primer, 54.5gr
Reloader 17, and Nosler 85gr BTBT loaded .015 off the lands.
The fire-formed brass is neck sized, only.

might wanna also try the sierra 87 grain spt. I've had good luck with it and imr 3031 in my tikka, and get best velocities with imr 4831 (that I've tried anyway).

Is the TNT less apt to exit than the V-Max? from what I have read you can seat the TNT further foreward as it has no boattail, so it's closer to the lands...? (haven't started reloading yet)

Thinking I should try the 100grain TNT for my Swede for coyotes.

Here's a 75 VMax out of the .25-06 at 3750fps vs. Coyote... that's the entrance wound you see. Shot was 150 yards... dog was sitting barking at me... bullet hit dead center of the brisket... no exit.

Yep, that looks about right. 100 gr. NBT's do about the same out of my 25-06AI. Its not pretty.

Good to see you hanging out here Outlawyote. Your input was always a breathe of fresh air when you were on the SS forum. Still shooting that 28" barreled AI on yotes? That has to put a hurtin' on dogs

You turned me on to R22 for my 25-06. The longer barrel really liked it better than R19. Thanks!

Thanks guys :) I might not be around much but I'll try. I was sposed to be a grampa 3 days ago so I might be dropping the ball n headn out any moment.Happy new year to everyone :))
