.25-06 loads?

I am curious what some good .25-06 coyote loads are? I've looked at some recipes online which have given me some good ideas. I'm wondering what you have used and found effective? Thanks for the help

75 grain Hornady over H4350. I don't remember the exact powder charge, but it was near max. These days I use a .22-250 or .243 in a lighter gun.

56 grs of H4831sc and 100 gr Speer boatail. The most important thing I have learned with the 25-06 is to use a magnum primer . This did more to shrink groups than anything eles I tried . I am using Federal 215m's . I would suggest you read the articals on the 06 in ken waters book Pet loads. There are tons of tips here.

I have had good results with the 75 grain V-max as well. I put a healthy dose of Varget behind mine. Not recommended if you save pelts. Wouldn't mind finding a more pelt friendly bullet of similar weight if anyone has a recommendation?

85 grain Nosler BT, 56.5 grains of RL 19, Federal 210 LR primer, their manual list 57.0 as maximum at 3600 fps so work up. 57.0 showed a little hot of a load when it gets to 100 degrees. The 56.5 load has worked well in four rifles, and runs a little over 3500 fps. Not a lot of coyote kills, but good on several small Texas whitetail. It usually stays together and exits out the back side.

The 115 grain Berger hunting VLD works well with H 4831, or IMR 4350.

My favorite cartridge, I've owned one for 36 years. For varmint hunting I've used the Sierra 87 gr, Nosler 85 gr and lastly the new Sierra 90 gr Blitz King with excellent results.

Also tried the 75 gr Sierra HP but found it lost to much killing power beyond 300 yards. It sure was accurate but didn't produce one shot kills like the 85 to 90 gr bullets did. The Hornady 75 gr has a better bc so may do better. But why, the 85 to 90 bullets just do the job so well.

For powder you can use almost anything with a burn rate near IMR4350. In fact I still load and shoot IMR4350. I prefer RL19 as it gives a little higher velocity. And experimenting with RL17 and the Nosler 85 gr bullet has prodcuced velocities just over 3625 fps.

I've shot 100 gr bullets but they are overkill for varmint hunting. My favorite was the Nosler 100 BT. Very accurate at about 3400 fps.

Anything heavier is for deer or larger.

I don't have any load data with me but if you send me a private message I'll pass on what data I have.

Do you have to reduce your powder load when using magnum primers?

My load also with 57 grs. However, I have 10 loaded rounds and no powder to be had.

Always reduce with mag primers.
My 25-06 has never needed them though
The advantage with this flat shooting round is being able to reach out with "heavier" slugs than what you get with 243s. The heavier slugs give you more energy to hit with, but you need one that stays together. 85s, 100s, 115s

Hey newmexkid wish you live by I have 10 or 12 pds on hand I load it in my 25/06 and 280 and only shoot it at a animal. The gun shop in my town has good luck of getting the RL 19. I wish you live close by I would let 2 pds go to help you out. Richard

I worked up loads when I went to mag primers . There are no pressure signs . I would not just change primers with out load development.

Man...You're killing me!!! I appreciate the thought. Going to Wyoming in a couple of weeks and I expect to hit every sporting goods store between here and there.

I wouldn't sit around waiting for RL19 when there are so many others that work well.

Pick a bullet weight than choose a powder. For 85 to 90 gr I'd use RL17, RL19, IMR4350 or H4831sc. Most of these will work with heavier bullets too. These are what I have used and like in the .25-06, there are many more.

I'm sitting around waiting because there is no powder to be had around here!!

I built up a load last week that I'm hoping is going to work well.

100gr Nosler BT
52gr 4831
CCI Large Rifle

I haven't had a chance to take it outside and shoot at farther distance but I've shot it at the range I work at and at 25 yards it's keeping good groups. Here's hoping it does it at longer range
