25-06 reviews

I have a pretty rare Rem. 7600 in 2506 that has done very well for me and my daughter.I use Nosler Bal. Tip and Part. in 115gr. I really like Retumbo but Reloader 22 and 19 are good also. I want to try some 120gr Part. for 2013 season.

Maybe in a week or so I will have something to add.

I just got a Rem. 700 cdl opening week of dove season. Black Friday I bought a Vortex Viper HS 4-16x44 and some Warn mounts and rings.

Quote:I found a great bullet for most everything with the Speer 100 gr.

Ackley man had also recommended this bullet to me, so I ordered a 100 count box of the Speers from Midway along with a sniper drag bag last week.

I handed it all off to my reloader (Venatic), Friday who is probably working up a load as we speak.

when I re-barreled my rifle the first time to 25-06 the gunsmith gave me a load that I have used for 30 years now.

use at your own risk

Venatic shot this group today with his reloads and IMR 4350 I think.

I didn't see where anyone mentioned barrel length. What do you prefer? I'm thinking at least 24" but maybe longer?

This barrel is 24 inches.I would say 24 inches is minimum to achieve good velocities as the 25-06 needs longer barrels to perform.

I had a 25-06 with a 22" barrel. Took a rag bull with it and 120gr sierra hp. Now have a cooper with a 26" tube. Shoots bergers into a 1/2" at 200 yards. Took a cow elk at 468 yards and never took a step.
The 25-06 is not my first choice as a elk rifle but is up to the task if the shooter is.

25-06 is my favorite cartridge hands down. Works great on anything from yotes to elk. I saved up my pennies and bought a Cooper in 25-06. It shoots 100 gr. Barnes TTSX in .300 inch groups with Vihta Vouri 160. Fantastic cartridge for kids and women as well.

+1 favorite hunting rifle. Low recoil makes us all more accurate. I have been using the 117gr Sierra sbt with R22 and have been happy with performance. I am stuck on that bullet for deer but have been wanting to experiment with the 100 gr pills too. In the past I had good success with IMR 4831 and hornady 117 gr boat tails. My experience has shown that it's not a finicky round to reload for.
