.25-06...Ruger or Remington

Seems like no one wants to chamber a bolt gun in this caliber. All they want to sell is some WSM thingy or a "tiny tot" WSSM caliber....*raspberry*!!

Which of these two have the best trigger right out of the box? Accuracy-wise is one a LOT better than the other?

Either have any real "watch out for ( ??)" things about them?

You guys with 50 guns apiece ...:)...can help me out here a lot

Thanks
Sully

I like remingtons but if u want a solid gun check out the tikka t3. It's a great gun. Got 2 friends with them in 25-06 and I got one in a 7mm-08.

Sorry. I gave up on "magazines sticking out the bottom" when I traded in my M14 to Uncle Sam.

I personally have a t3 stainless/laminate in .25/06, it is a very accurate gun in a very fun caliber. That being said, of the 2 guns mentioned, I would have to vote for the ruger, more for reasons of personal preference than anything else.

My yote hunting bud has a 25/06 in a 700 and says it has the best factory trigger of any gun he's owned....and he's owned a pile!! Accurate as heck too!!!

never had a ruger. i have bdl varmint and a sendero in 25-06. if i had ruger varmint it would be interesting to compare. rem you have all "more" after market stock and triggers. half of my rems have shilen or jewel trigger .

No one can argue that point for sure. Seems like 50% of the after market stuff is for Rem 700.

The differences out of the box is what Im wondering about though.

if the choice is between ruger and remington only, i would go with the 700. i have 2 700's and both are good guns. i had one ruger 243 back around 2000, i traded it off on an 88 winchester. never mounted a scope on it or fired it. that was a while ago and things may have changed, but i was not impressed with the shape of the stock on the ruger, seemed a little square on the bottom, also the polish on the barrel didnt match the receiver. the barrel was a very nice polish, the receiver had machining marks visible, i also think the receivers with the built in scope mounts dont look very good.

Remington CDL in 25-06 I have used one for 3 hunts in Wyoming and 6/7 years in PA. Game taken Gound hogs, White tail and mule deer, antilope, cyotes. It just has the right fit an feel for me that is the most important part. It has become my go to gun.

Had a rugged No1V in .25-06 it shot sub 1"MOA and I never had to have the trigger or anything else worked on. I have several Remingtons but none in .25-06 but I do have one in .243 that shoots great but I am having the trigger changed out.

I have a Ruger 77-R purchased new in 1983...it is a great rifle, so I am presuming their quality is still high...my Ruger has the 24" medium sporter barrel, which I like a lot.

Although some may find the Ruger on the heavy side, the 25/06 deserves a heavier, and 24" barrel, to really maximize its velocity/accuracy potential, and I like that for the long shots on windy days. Of course, some guys like em' lighter...

Remingtons are good as well

I love the design and function of the Ruger rings, my rifle has not lost zero after 28 years....

I had the pleasure of owning a Remington 700 Varmint Special in .25-06 for 34 years. The .25-06 is a great caliber and keeps gaining in popularity, even in a world where people think WSM.

About 5 years ago I found out that the barrel was starting to wear out on my 700. It might shoot 3 shots fine but the 4th or 5th would end up being about 1.5" off the mark. The owner of the gunshop I frequented talked me into buying a Ruger 77 Target that he was selling and selling my 700 on consignment.

The Ruger seemed to be put together well so I went for the offer. Once at the range I wasn't impressed with the Rugers shooting. It was OK but didn't impress me for being a Target version.

I returned the Ruger and retrieved my old 700 VS which I had rebarreled with a new Krieger barrel.

Ruger has come a long way in building a better rifle in my opinion. But me and that 700 VS have just been together too long to part, and you should see how it shoots now.

There just seems to be more after market goodies for the Remington which is a plus when you want a better trigger or stock.

Me too! But what's with this magazine trend, seems like they're trying to cater to the military rifle crowd.

I have a Rem. 700 BDL in 25-06 that I am quite pleased with. My safe has sevral Remington rifles in it and just one Ruger. I have owned other Ruger rifles but can't seem to get them to shoot as well as I tend to be able to get Remington rifles shooting.

Picked up a Ruger 77 in 257 Roberts last fall; absolutely love it! While I've herad others here complain about the trigger on the Ruger, mine breaks cleanly at 3.5 lbs, every pull, did so out of the box. Finish on the stock was a little flat for my taste, it doesn't show off the true beauty of the grain in the stock. A little Birchwood Casey gun stock wax and a silicone gun wipe will bring the finish out on just about anything however, as well as providing a very durable finish. About 2 - 3 minutes of waxing and polishing brought out a nice low luster gloss that shows off the true beauty of the stock, in my opinion.

I've owned both and the Ruger will outshoot the Model 700. All new guns seem to need trigger work, Remington especially since the flack on the older 700's.
