25 wssm coyote load ? ?

Just tried out some RL-17 yesterday with Sierra 90gr GKs. Got good groups at 49.0 (4 shots into a .285 group, then the 5th opened it up to .700). 49.5 grains grouped prety well too. Just a hair wider than 49.0. Tried 50 grains, but the groups opened up quite a bit at that load.
Also tried RL-17 with 100gr Nosler Spitzers. Not good. Tried several different loads but best groups were just under 1". Varget worked much better with this bullet.

Lots of good info, everybody keep the results comeing (as shooting weather permits, of course). This could help out alot of people and maybe even help build more interest in the 25 wssm in the AR 15 platform. Seeing how there are no more major firearm manufacturers chambering the 25 wssm in bolt guns, this may be the last hope to keep this great cartridge alive. And I think it is one of the best in this platform. What do you all think ? Opinons ?

Yeah, that's pretty mild. I'm at 49.8 gr with a 87 gr Sierra. That seems to shoot great. I thought I'd start at 50 with the 75's. Thanks and keep us posted and I'll do the same.

Got some new range results, weather was 25 degrees, sunny with about a 8mph crosswind.
Got to try the 75 grain vmax today, it's gonna be a winner with RL17. Started at 51 grains, then 51.5, and 52. I had 5 with the 51, fouling shot went wide right about 1", then the next 4 went into .6". 51.5 was 3 shots in .6", and 52 was 3 shots into 1.1". I forgot the chrony, but they should be doing about 3500fps +.
It's shooting everything well. Tried some 90 gr Sierra blems, they don't have the boattail, and four went into a ragged hole, the fifth opened it up to an inch. The flier was the 2nd in the sequence. That was with 49.2 gr RL 17. My load with 49.8 RL17 and 87 gr sierras was also .6".
I'm out of 87's, so I'll stick with the 75's for coyotes I think. Ought to be really fur unfriendly.
I gotta admit I had my doubts, starting to think I should have sprung for the shilen upgrade, but this rifle is really winning me over.

yea, guys, I'm sorry. The weather has been windy, snowy and cold these last few weeks, so I have'nt had a chance to get out and do some load testing. I hope to get out as soon as things gets more hospible. Sounds like I'll have to get some RE-17 and try out a few 75 gr V-maxs. Also I just found out a cousin of mine has wild hogs on his farm and I hope to try that 115 gr Nosler BT & 4064 on one later on this year. Hope the stubbie 25 wssm is enough gun for them. Later guys.

Got to shoot the 75 gr vmax load again today with the chrony, they are at 3500 fps with 51 gr of RL17. I was zeroing a new scope, I shot one, adjusted, and the next 4 went under .7". Then shot them at 200 yards for a 2" group, 5 shots. This was with 25 degree temps and a 12 mph crosswind, and me wearing gloves. Oh and about 50 rounds down the tube since the last cleaning. So I'm happy with that for now, no sense trying to tune it further in winter conditions. Now to get some coyotes in the crosshairs!
