25 wssm

Nope, I'd stick with a 1:10 for the 25. If you were hard up to run the heavys in the .243 or 223Wizzer, then ya might want to go faster...

Mine was a 22" tube SUM tube, with Dtech compensator. In the vid, you can see how steady the barrel stays under fire...

If you were really wanting a 25 with a shorter barrel, then the 25DTI may be your baby. But that's a 'reload only' wildcat...

So many rifles, so little time (and $$$)!!!

Bluetick: No on the 8 twist. For a 25 cal. go with a 10 twist, it will handle any 25 cal. bullet handily.
Pay attention to what Knockemdown said in his post above, he's got the practical experience to know what actually works. Don't get hung up on the VLDs. While they do indeed have super BCs and I wouldn't want to use anything else for long range competition, they can be a real pain to find a usable seating depth without butchering a magazine and sure aren't needed for practical hunting distances.
In the 25 WSSMs I've used both 75 Vmax and 75 and 87 Sierras at velocities ranging from 3,300 to 3,500 fps from 10 twist 22" barrels. They'll easily handle any predator from 500 yards and in (and further out) and you can just work up a 100 or 115 grain load for deer.

I'm in total agreement with Knockemdown and Dtwee. While VLD bulets are nice, they are certainly not necessary to achieve excellent results for both hunting and target shooting, especially with high velocity cartridges like the wssm family.

I just got back from a predator/varmint hunting trip in Texas earlier this week and I can tell you that my Dtech 25 wssm performed every bit as well (if not better) than I hoped it would. With 85gr Nosler BTs loaded to just over 3400 fps, the effects on game were extraordinary.

I also agree with the non vld bullet crowd. I've got the 75 vmax's for varmints and will use either 80 gr or 100 gr Barnes ttsx for big game out of the 25 wssm. They will all be plenty flat for what I do.

Does anyone have any good/positive data from the sierra game king 90gr hollow points out of the 25wssm? Bought some to shoot and see how they look.

They shot well for me so far, using RL17. I haven't shot very many, but typical seemed like 4 thru one ragged hole with a flier making a 3/4" group.

These have worked well for me too. Best powders so far have been RL-17 and IMR-4350. Try both at just a few % below max load. 2.250 AOL seems to work well.
