.250 Savage Ackley-Improved

Losing my interest in messing with 22-250s. Im sick off not dropping coyotes in their tracks. I shot my first bobcat this morning and it got to the brush. I ended up finding it an hour later, but with pure luck.
I have a .250 Savage AI that is by far my favorite gun. I was wondering if anyone has worked up loads already for 75gr bullets. already bought both the V-Max, and the Sierras about a month ago.
Any ideas on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks All

RevKent,

Welcome to Predator Masters!

I don't own a AI but am contemplating getting one built out of my 788 Rem.

That rifle is currently a .22-250. I used to have trouble with 'otes running of but cured the problem first with the Sierra 55 gr. spitzer boat tail Game King and latter with the Nosler 55 gr. ballistic tip.

The Nos 55 definitely puts the "bite" on them!

Thanks Three 44s.
I shot the GameKing for the first time this morning. Maybe Im being to quick to judge them. I still do have faith in them. As it turns out, I made a marginal shot on my cat, and thats more likely why it ran. When it's looking like your gonna lose your first bobcat, you can get depressed quick. I do know that the days of hunting with ballistic silvertips and white-box wins are over for me. The animals are worth more than the savings.
Nevertheless, I do aim to find a light bullet load for my Ackley, because when you find a gone you love, then thats the gun you love!

I am shooting 85 grain ballistic tips in my Remington Classic 250 savage. They don't go anywhere after being hit but fur damage can be a problem.

....I don't know about the Improved .250, but the Savage 111FL in .250 Savage that I have is my most-used coyote rifle.

I have excellent results with the Sierra 75 HP, using 44.0 gr of H414, Winchester LR primers, in Win brass.

Accuracy is very good, in the 3/4" range, with velocity chrono'ed at 3320 FPS.

After I bought this rifle, second-hand, I have learned why the .250 was so popular, for so many years. It should be brought back into production.

Hornady makes a flat base 75 gr. HP in .257" and .243".

I had a .250-3000 in a 99 Savage until I foolishly sold it!

That 75 gr. Hornady did the trick but fur was tough.

The 75 gr. .243 in a .243 Win. drops their ....... in the dirt quite convincingly too!
